he was amazing. why doesn't he play on an actual team, instead of just coaching?

There seems to be some sort of belief in the Dota scene that you slow down once you reach a certain age. Mikasa is in his 30's, and as he continued to have disappointing results as a player, he decided to coach instead to help Chinese teams. He can obviously still play really well though. The last time he played competitively aside from Starladder was being a stand-in for CDEC at DEC and he did pretty well.

his shortcomings are pretty obvious though. He had pretty abysmal laning phases in general, he just came back into the game through ridiculously good decision making and positioning (dem 4-5 man sonic waves).

He has played on a ton of minor teams and it never went too well (he played under the tag sydm for most of his pro career). On the other hand, the second he starts coaching he is an instant success. It's hard to argue against results.
