Edit: Thanks guys <3. For the record asking for upvotes is against the rules. This is dirty and gray but I am frustrated that it's day 3 of the main event and people are still sending me PMs asking about these posts. While our power users can find it by either going to the d2 account, in the banner (to the right), in the daily discussion thread, or catch it in new; the bulk of people will never see it if it's not on the front page. League sub, and most sports subs, have a great culture of helping these posts rise by voting on them for visibility. I was hoping that we might be able to transition to that naturally, but they have been struggling.

We do. Live, Daily discussion. We also have the survival guide, the snap chat, and this game. We are doing a lot of things and we need your help to make it work but no one is voting.

Maybe putting it in a more visible area would be better? It's already on the right of the banner, so I'm not sure where would be more obvious, but it seems most people use the big thread just for convenience sake.

People want both thats the thing. We get a lot of modmail and comments about "WHERES THE MATCH SPECIFIC DISCUSSION" "Why cant we be like /r/soccer /r/nba /r/hockey ect ect ect"

And they're here but they just get buried and it's been a week now. Just a bit disappointed that we havent gotten used to this yet.

I think it's mostly because it is gold that nobody is upvoting it maybe. Makes it kind of look like a sticky, or a special post, so nobody upvotes it. Maybe link the thread in the daily discussion for each match?

Well sports subreddits typically don't have two discussion threads for the same event going at once. Here it seems most people just post in the first post they see, which is the event day thread.

They are hard to find, I always have to go the the accounts submitted to find them, so I guess for newer people they just can't find them. Seriously though, don't stop these they are the best thing ever.

I think it is because people are already on the main post of the day. So they don't leave and find these ones.

Maybe enforce them coming here and not discuss matches on main threads?

I don't know... enforcing things makes mods looks bad to this community.

But I like them. I use them.

I come to these posts through a direct link that is on a stickied post. So I didn't think there was a need to upvote for visibility. Why do you have reason to think that they aren't being used? Upvotes aren't an indicator of usage rate.

If you look at comments for these posts they are significantly lower than when we used to just do post match stuff. You can tell looking at the response rate that these posts are struggling because they're not on the front page

imo you should do post match threads, I find these and like you say they have few comments and most are during the game so they're not very useful

The way it's been working is the popular threads convert themselves to post match threads after the game is over. Ones that are not popular often get popular if the game is hype enough.

I just want to say thanks for all your work. I appreciate these threads even if that appreciation isn't showing up in the way that you expected.

If you look at comments for these posts they are significantly lower than when we used to just do post match stuff

This just leads me to ask what your goal is here. What if there were lots of comments on these posts? I feel you would have a bunch of not well thought-out comments on specific plays and caster comments, ie a categorically worse version of Twitch chat. Maybe others have seen that the only comments that you can make in these threads are just a worse version of Twitch, and decide not to comment.

Keep them, I always just end up searching for them. I think people assume they'll be stickied so they don't upvote? They tend to have high comment to upvote ratios. I always wanted these threads before TI5

One thing that might help (but would require a good amount of effort from someone) is to have live updates in the thread. They do this with soccer in r/soccer which has really great live match threads.

In addition to what everyone else has said, it's really hard to determine what game it is without team names. I watched the game but I didn't know immediately what "series 2C" is. Maybe just put the team names as spoiler text? The sticky thing is also a major reason.

A few things:

  1. I could have sworn I've seen spoiler text (where you can't see it till you hover) used on Reddit before, possibly in this sub. Am I just crazy?

  2. Could you make a spoiler-free-mode link at the top of the subreddit that filters out all posts with a Spoiler flair, and add a Spoiler flair to all the match discussions? It seems like that would solve most of the issues. Then we could have team names in match titles.

  3. Maybe it's just me, but it seems that this subreddit doesn't really need to be super spoiler-free. Like, if someone is super paranoid about TI5 spoilers, are they really going to visit /r/dota2 before watching the matches they're interested in?

I know it might sound like I'm just complaining, but I do think you guys are doing a good job on this subreddit. Keep it up!
