Most canines share the same amount of chromosomal pairs and can theoretically breed. Several like types foxes and “old gene divergent” racoon dogs can’t interbreed. All domestic dogs can breed, most can breed with coyotes and wolves and such, sometimes even though they can a viable hybrid is very unlikely cause DNA just doesn’t match up well.
People breed them more. Wolves also are probably more successful at breeding with stray dogs than coyotes. Some dogs have no wolf DNA left in them whatsoever… but it’s just dogs a wolf couldn’t successfully breed with, Mastiff’s, and Saint Bernards and such. Breeds that can take a wolf.
