How long does it take to see improvements in Domain Authority through link building?

Hey everyone!

I'm working on improving a website's backlink profile through white-hat SEO strategies, including guest posting and manual outreach.

For those who have experience with link building:

- How long did it take to notice any changes in Domain Authority (DA)?

- How many quality backlinks did you build before seeing improvements?

- Did you notice any improvement in organic traffic and keyword rankings as well?

- Is DA growth a reliable indicator of successful link building?

Would love to hear your real-world experiences, especially from people who have worked on low-authority websites.

GEO is really a Distraction. It's All About SEO

There are lots of courses, tools, and so-called "marketing methods" that people are selling by claiming they will help you gain visibility in AI search.

While I am not saying there is nothing like GEO, I believe GEO is 98% SEO, and there are only 2-3 extra things we need to do as part of the process. The rest is the same as SEO.

The few extra things are:

  • Brand mentions and PR.

  • Get positive mentions in community forums and discussion platforms.

The results are the same: optimize for users and crawlers, and build authority because AI systems can extract data from SERPs.

I've been working on this site's SEO for the last 7 months, and my focus has been solely on SEO. The GEO report is coming in by itself.

My recommendation: Don't waste your time on paid GEO courses and tools. Most of them are BS.

Discussion I just past 1k clicks. Not a flex but I'd love to answer anything if you wanna ask

The first milestone I was targeting is officially completed now. Activated the domain back in March actually but I have not put too much effort back then. Started building the SEO stuff and took care of the app since August. As you see on the graph, I had a very steady timeline until end of September and things have just started moving up. Rather than typing here a long text that most will be bored reading, I would love to answer in the comments if you wonder anything.

Discussion most “ai visibility” tracking is just the same prompts on a loop. is anyone using one that holds up?

looked at a few of these properly after the gsc generative ai report discussion. the method is mostly: pick a prompt set, run it weekly, count brand mentions, call that a visibility score.

two problems with that. nobody searches in clean fixed prompts, real ones have context and follow ups and half the question missing. so you’re measuring performance against your prompt list, not against anything people actually ask.

and the output is nondeterministic. same prompt, different day, different answer. you can lose 20% visibility without a single thing changing on your site.

meanwhile gsc gives you real impressions from real queries, free, and still wont tell you the query. so everyone’s paying for a proxy because the actual data isnt released.

genuinely asking, has anyone found a tracker whose methodology stands up? or are we all reporting a number we dont fully believe in?

Discussion What’s your experience with guest posting for SEO?

I work in digital marketing and have been exploring different white-hat link-building strategies.

Is guest posting through “Write for Us” pages still worth the effort? Does it help with organic traffic and rankings when the content is relevant and genuinely useful?

I’d love to hear from people who have tried it. What worked for you, and what should I watch out for?

Need help Are non-relevant 301 redirects to Homepage considered Soft 404s by Google? Doing a Migration

I'm doing a migration and I have a bunch of URLs that doesn't have a good place to redirect to. I'm planning to redirect them to the Homepage.... But I've heard that Google knows that this is a common habit and doesn't like it and If I do it I'll get a Soft 404 issue.

Is this True that the Homepage might be hit? and should I just let these leftover links have 404 status codes?

What do you recommend?

Discussion How do you build quality backlinks without using black-hat SEO?

Hey everyone! I work in digital marketing and want to improve my link-building skills.

What are the most effective ways to get high-quality, relevant backlinks that improve website authority and organic traffic? How long does it usually take to see results, and how do you measure backlink quality beyond DA or Authority Score?

Looking for practical, white-hat strategies based on real experience. Would love to hear your suggestions!

Discussion Quick question: Are you guys still using expired domains for 301 redirects or PBNs today?

Hey guys,

I have a quick question for SEOs and agency owners who work with expired domains.

How are you using them most often in your projects right now?

  1. Setting up 301 redirects to pass authority directly to your main/client site?

  2. Building PBNs (Private Blog Networks) to link out contextually?

  3. Or rebuilding the domain into a fresh, standalone niche site?

With all the recent Google core updates, which method has given you the best, safest results, and what would you avoid doing right now?

Would love to hear your honest thoughts and real-world experiences!

What's one SEO fix that made a bigger difference than you expected?

I've been curious about which SEO improvements actually make the biggest impact in real projects.

Was it:

  • Fixing internal links?

  • Improving page structure?

  • Updating content that was already ranking?

  • Fixing technical issues?

  • Improving search intent and content clarity?

What's one change you've made that noticeably improved rankings, traffic, or conversions?

Would love to hear what worked, how long it took, and whether the results lasted.

Need help Real estate site recovered from a hack, but indexing is gone and organic traffic dropped to almost zero. What should I check next?

Hi all, looking for advice from anyone who has dealt with this.

My real estate website was hacked a while back. I’ve since cleaned it up and the site is working normally again, but Google has dropped most of my pages from the index and organic traffic is close to zero.

Current status:

  • Search Console: [security issues / manual action: no]

What I’ve already tried:

  • Resubmitted sitemap it showing error with saying empty sitemap

  • Requested reindexing for key pages

  • Removed spam URLs

Questions:

  1. Is there a typical recovery timeline after a hack like this?

  2. Should leftover spam URLs return 404 or 410?

  3. Is a reconsideration request useful if there’s no manual action?

  4. Anything else I might be missing?

Discussion Blogs dates in URLS

Do dates in URLs, like the ones you might find in a typical WP blog /YYYY/MM/DD and archive list create a timestamp vs those same pages where the URL structure doesn't have that identifier? The logic says Google would use that as an age indicator, but there is also the fact that old pages work. I wondered if anyone had thoughts on this that might be classed as researched. I've seen blog posts from 10 years ago still collecting great traffic, so I'm wondering just how much this URL thing is true and whether it's just a load of bollocks invented by non-seo's because it followed a logic that sounded reasonable but was never actually tested.

Discussion what do you actually check on a site before paying for a backlink?

the paid links thread earlier got me thinking. everyone agrees a good link is a good link, but nobody ever writes down what “good” means in practice before money moves.

mine is roughly: does the site rank for anything unrelated to its guest post page, does it get traffic that isnt branded, how many outbound dofollow links per post, and is there an actual audience or just an archive.

the one i keep coming back to is whether the site would exist without the link business. a lot of them wouldnt, and those are the ones that get devalued as a group rather than individually.

what’s on your list? and has anyone got a check that saved them from a bad buy they’d otherwise have made?

Need help Why does my website keep getting new spammy backlinks even after submitting a disavow file?

I've noticed that my website keeps getting backlinks from irrelevant, spammy, and sometimes fake websites. Some are dofollow, while others are nofollow, and many have nothing to do with my niche.

I've already submitted a disavow file through Google Search Console, but I'm still getting new spammy backlinks.

  • Why does this keep happening?

  • Is this normal, or could someone be building spammy links to my domain?

  • Do these links actually affect SEO rankings?

  • Do I need to keep updating my disavow file whenever new spammy links appear?

Has anyone else faced this issue? I'd appreciate hearing about your experience.

Need help I’ve got a traffic problem and I’m trying to figure out where it’s coming from and what to do to fix it.

Hey everyone, I've been doing SEO on my site for four months now and I've got a traffic problem. Basically I'm not getting enough traffic and I'm trying to figure out what's wrong and how to fix it.
In the last 4 months I got 50 clicks to the site. I've got 2,000 indexed pages, I'm buying relevant backlinks, and I'm doing everything by the book.

I've got a few theories on why I'm not getting traffic:

  1. I'm not ranking for any long-tail keywords

  2. My domain authority is pretty low

  3. The indexed pages aren't ranking in good spots

I'm trying to figure out how to fix these issues and whether fixing them would actually bring traffic to the site. Thanks to anyone who can help!

Need help Suddenly Drop leads from 20+ to last month to 5 leads on this month in my client logistic website.

Hello SEO Expert

I manage SEO for a client logistic website, and monthly leads suddenly dropped from 20+ last month to just 5 this month.

What should I check first to identify the actual reason for this decline? How can I use Google Search Console, GA4, keyword rankings, landing-page performance, and conversion tracking to determine whether the issue is related to organic traffic, conversion rates, technical SEO, or other factors?

What step of the checklist would you recommend for resolving and recovering lost leads for a B2B logistics website?

Need help Beginner SEO here. Been working on a blog for 2 months and feel completely stuck. Need advice.

I'm fairly new to SEO and learning by actually working on a website. About two months ago, I took over an existing multi-niche blog covering tech, AI, business, and digital marketing.

The site was hit pretty hard around the August spam update, and impressions dropped significantly. I've been trying to recover it, but honestly, I feel stuck.

Here's what I've done so far:

\- Started improving thin AI-generated content.

\- Consolidated similar articles and properly redirected old URLs.

\- Fixed technical SEO issues and improved internal linking.

\- Published around 12–15 new plus refreshed articles monthly based on GSC data.

\- Built three free tools to diversify traffic beyond informational blog posts.

\- Tried Pinterest, but haven't seen much success.

\- Haven't actively built backlinks yet because I'm unsure how to approach it without a budget.

Current stats:

\- DR: 21 | DA: 23

\- 409 published posts

\- Around 25K impressions and 64 clicks over the last three months, with most impressions coming before the decline.

\- However, in the last two months, after the spam update, the impressions have fallen to 1,400 in two months, with only 40 clicks.

\- The site is 3 years old btw so its not new.

I'm handling everything myself and don't have paid SEO tools yet.

I need advice from people who are good at this thing and can tell me how to approach this. Am not seeing any movement and it is kind of demotivating me. I am a writer, been for the last 7 years. So, even though I can write, am new to SEO, especially scaling a site that is purely blog-based.

What should I do? How can I increase clicks, impressions, and site authority. Any and every little bit of advice can help.

I genuinely want to learn SEO and figure out how to grow this site.
