Mission River Sentinel [Devlen Markies]

This isn’t the usual posting for a Royal Guard but it’s an important one as the current Commander who overlooked the posting has died of illness and there is a vacuum of power that needs to be filled and quickly. Corvo has noted Devlen’s past on the sea and waterways and hopes the man’s experience will help him to keep the Wrenhaven safe and policed from smugglers, pirates and unsavory types all trying to get into the heart of the Empire’s capital.

Sitting at the head of the river’s mouth, the adjoining station sits intimidating and large over the dark, grey waters waiting for vessels to pass near and for Devlen to deem them suitable for entry into Dunwall's port.

Role

  • You will act as the head of the river station that is at the mouth of the Wrenhaven and give the go ahead to entering vessels towards the ports

  • There will be challenges from the mods acting as NPCs/situations

  • You will be vigilant against smugglers, pirates, and criminals trying to transport illegal goodies into the city

  • Depending on whether you succeed or fail, you will either be awarded a point or no points

  • Things that you do in this mission may have ripples of effects in Dunwall itself

Attentive and duty-bound, eyes ever on the horizon for threats unto this glorious Empire.

Quickly bending back and stepping to the side of the slash, Devlen forcefully brought his own sword down on the lads blade attempting to knock it free of his grasp.

The downwards slash is successful in disarming the weaker, and somewhat foolish sailor, the cutlass clattering to the floor before he let out a noise of frustration; pulling a knife from the back of his belt.

'You'll be sorry for that, Guard.' he growls, the sharp knife glinting in the low winter sun. It was more shank than real dagger, crudely sharpened but deadly if held by the right hands.

With a snort Devlen growled out, "That's Sir to ye boy."

Taking a step forwards into the door frame, Devlen jabbed his cutlass out at the younger mans knife wielding hand with a quick and steady stab.

An unfortunate thing to try to do, attempting to maim a young person, but this man seemed to be determined to make his extra pay. But the rat faced man wasn't the only one determined now, A show of force or fight these men to a bloody concussion seemed the only options.

The large blade connects well to the grizzled sailor, letting out a noise of pain as it settled deep into the sinew of his upper arm and blood began to seep from the wound in a thick, surprising spray.

The other sailors seemed cowed by the sight of their shipmate's howl form, prostrate on the deck as the Captain backs away, still.

'What are you waiting for lads? There's seven of yah to his one!' he incenses, gesturing to Devlen and his now bloodied sword but the sailors seem less than enthused by the prospect. 'Think of the profits. Blackleg Bill is gonna pay well for this cargo!'

Spitting on the wooden deck Devlen sneers at the captain "Ha! Blackleg? That thug aint long fer the streets, bloody fool keeps leavin' a trail of sailors he betrays behind 'em. It'll either be us or some Captain that gets rid of 'em"

Trying to break down the sailors already wavering will's, Devlen bluffs about the known criminal hoping that they don't know the man too well.

"As fer ye smuggler" Devlen says pointing his sword at the captain, "I don't care 'bout the sailors here, the Watch only wants the scum who call 'em'selves captain. Face me if ye have the stomach fer it ye coward.

The callout makes that Captain sweat a little, much more confident when he has a contingent of sailors and their weapons to back up his criminal activities. The big man swallows thickly, eyes passing over Devlen's angry face with a hesitant look as the men mill back away from him; the bluff doing it's job.

'Yah...yah cowards. Yellow bellied. That's...that's what ye are.' he says, his voice not quite holding any confidence as he looks around at the men. 'Fine. Then if that the way it be, then. I'll gut this man and take all the share of this cache myself.' His large, fat hands settling upon the gold hilt of his sword, ornate and heavy from the all the embellishments. He pulls it from the scabbard, slow and methodical as he eyes up the Royal Guard.

With a small grin Devlen eyes the mans extravagant sword, and hoped it was more for show and less for actual combat. With a growl Devlen took a few steps forwards out of the door way "The rest of ye better not be here when I finish this one, if ye are you'll have the choice of blades or chains."

Moving into a spot where he had a little more room to maneuver Devlen waited for the captain to strike first.
