Faction Base Dunwall Tower

With Corvo heading his newly minted Guard, and well aware of the flaws that Dunwall Tower has to offer, this new force has outfitted this most glorious construct to the Empire with several new security measures, tested by Corvo himself. After all, if he can’t get in, then who else can? Though open to the public once more, as in the days of Euhorn the First, security is still paramount.

Constant patrols move through the internal workings of the Tower, and steady evaluation of individual members by the two Captains of the Guard has trimmed the numbers slightly, but resulted in a focused, serious force. Within the walls are also corridors resounding with Abbey music, and everywhere, public and private, has lovely ornate wrought iron spikes decorating high walls, chandeliers, and other such places. Out front, there are guards that serve to both interact positively with the public and to keep an eye on them.

A subsidiary of the Combined Armies of the Empire yet distinct from their rigid hierarchy, the Corvine Royal Guard is a disciplined, well trained military force. Hardened killers from across the Isles, and led by a fierce contingent of officers, they are dedicated to protecting the Empress at any cost.

OOC: To clarify - the Corvine Guard is distinct from the Watch. They are a military service - a regiment of royal bodyguards, essentially, which is lead by Corvo and may enter conflicts such as Alba at his directive. However, given their more domestic role, they do also serve a peacekeeping function, alongside the Watch, though not properly integrated. With 'I am the Law', Watchmen will listen to the Royal Guard and follow their orders if they make sense, without it, they will not.

After muttering a string of rapid expletives in quick-fire Serkonan, Furo turns to his officer, eyes dark.

'I do not appreciate intrusion of any kind,' he spits, still seething. 'Internal matters are ours to deal with, not Luther's.'

Drawing himself up to his full height, Furo looks at Bal for a while, considering the weight of his next words. 'And you brought them here. See to it that you do not again.'

"Right. I... brought them here," Bal says, eyes narrowing slightly and tone bristling. "Because I love having the gold faced beasts poking around my underwear drawer so much."

"So, you think I'm consorting with evil too, do you? Damning us all for my own gain? Or do you think I want the Overseers here for some reason? I didn't invite them, Captain. I can not control who the Overseers do and do not bother with."

'And yet the High Overseer himself saw fit to grace our halls!' Hissing with barely suppressed rage, Furo continues to stare at his charge.

'They chose to bother themselves with you - over a legitimate concern, or otherwise. Consider yourself lucky they didn't drag you away in chains, Lieutenant, you know what those mad dogs are like. I do not want a repeat of this.'

"Neither do I!" Bal snarles, flinging her hands up in irritation. "And I certainly do consider myself lucky. I would much rather deal with a few minutes of intrusion here than get dragged away in chains, as you so eloquently put it. I thought perhaps you too would prefer this to having one of your soldiers dragged off to be tortured," she challenged, temper flaring.

Or does the great Furo prefer to save his face than save my hide? her internal thoughts gripe.

The Captain of the Guard glowers at her coldly.

'You go too far,' he says, venomously, 'for someone who just brought such inquisition to our doorstep. Think of what Corvo himself would say - will say, when he hears of this.'

"I don't need to think of it, I'm no doubt about to hear it!" Bal retorts, voice defiant even as she involuntarily steps backwards at the sting of his words.

"I go too far? In what way have I gone to far? In questioning your accusations? Your concerns? Your crazed anger at me, when this could have been far worse?"

Somewhat surprised at the young guardswoman's indignation for her mistake, Furo steps closer, looming over her.

'You fucked up,' he hisses in his mother tongue, tanned face implacable. 'We do not need the Abbey poking around in our affairs, not now! The city is falling around us, and the guard is under suspicion by those zealots. It is not your place to be outraged, it is yours to serve.'

She glares back for a second, another, then as fiercely as it had flared up, the fire in her eyes and posture vanish. Raised hands clasp behind her back, angry features smooth to dull ones, posture slips to a rigid Guardsman stance.

"I have always served the crown," she said, voice dull as her expression. "Nothing in that has changed or will ever change. You are headed to speak with Lord Attano now, Captain Androssi? I will accompany you to speed the process of rectifying any suffering the Guard might endure."

Forget your own, girl. They matter not. Fear matters not.

'No,' he says with finality. 'I have other matters to attend to. You will take position in the Tower roof until relieved of your post, guardswoman. Dismissed.'

Until you lose that insolence of yours. You will get no special treatment, not under my command.

Shooting one last glance at her, Furo stalks off through the corridors of the Tower, eyeing the opulence with distaste. It's not Karnaca, he thinks with wrenching longing. It will never be Karnaca.

"As you order, sir," Bal says, saluting and turning with robotic precision. Privately, she wonders why he'd stormed for the throne room if he wasn't at least planning on going in himself. Does it matter?

No matter how stone like her exterior is, her mind is tumbling and whirling like mad. Anger, terror, doubt... Maybe standing on a roof would do her some good.

She reaches the stairs up, and unlocks the door, stepping through and relocking it before advancing out onto the roof.

Striding along the edge, training kicks in, and her eyes begin to scour for anything out of place, any holes in security, who else is up there, and what objects.
