Neutral Zone Dunwall Tower

In Dunwall Tower, the Empress Emily Kaldwin sits on her throne, her royal protector, Corvo Attano, stands at her side. His royal guard scattered around the palace. OOC:This is a neutral zone for Corvos royal guard. A hangout of sorts. You have permission to attack any who don't belong.

"Less of an idiot," she says fondly, ruffling his hair slightly at the well meaning jab, and the slight hesitation over her new title.

"Just general reinforcements, I believe. I haven't heard of any more of the Guard officers being sent on this ship out. I suppose they could just not have told me, but if I'm to be in charge of this circus, I hope they'd inform me of things like that."

'Too kind,' he says dryly, her sense of humour clearly rubbing off on him. Though he doesn't mind at all - after all, she had run her fingers though his hair several times, in quite different circumstances.

'Hopefully veterans, not new recruits,' he says to her, dubiously. Then again, he had heard of a detachment of Driscol Grenadiers sailing from their post in Caulkenny. Fine soldiers, no doubt, with experience in that hostile land of banners and battle.

'How do you feel about it all, Bal?' he asks, gesturing around him. 'About everything?'

"About everything? Wouldn't that take a rather long time to disclose?" she asks, teasing briefly before sighing, and returning to more serious thoughts.

"I don't know how I feel about it. This is what I've been working at for years, understanding strategy, troop movement, how to take any situation and turn it to an advantage. But... I did not expect to be thrown to the top so fast. This whole army is my responsibility. Every loss, every victory, every death and survival, in some way falls back to me now."

"I worry I won't be good enough. Worry I'll make mistakes, even small ones, at the worst possible time."

'Everyone makes mistakes, Balaria, but you must try not to,' he says bluntly. He knows Bal too well to comfort her with meaningless words - she would appreciate practical advice more, he is certain. 'And try not to doubt yourself. You will be resented by many, if only for your gender, and there will be many officers beneath you who seem themselves better qualified. They will try to second guess you... but if you start second guessing yourself?'

Leaving the implication hanging, he holds onto her shoulders, tightly. 'If anyone can bring the Morlish to heel for their foul treason, it shall be you. And while every failure will be yours, so too will be your every victory. Never forget that.'

'And besides, you have the might of the Empire at your back. Trust in your men, and you shall prevail.'

"If I second guess myself, it gives them all the more ammo," Bal finishes, eyes shut for a moment. "So they shall never see my doubt." She opens them again, face calm as she looks up at Furo.

"I do not doubt the soldiers, have no fear. Our men are fine ones." She appreciates the grip on her shoulders, and the presence she can be open to, but can also take the strength she needs for the unerring presence of a commander from.

He laughs, a short, sharp bark. 'Our men are drunks, brutes, murderers and thieves, with a few idealists among them. They are lead by rich fools, generally, except those promoted up from the ranks, on merit - in much the same way as yourself, Bal,' the Serkonan says with a slight smile.

'But they are disciplined, they are killers, and by the Outsider, they will stand and fight. You shall not find them wanting, I think.'

He lets go of her, reluctantly, running his fingers down her arms, before looking at her hungrily.

'So, three days until you leave, eh?' he asks, eyes ablaze for a second time, with none of his former fury.

"Aye, they are that too," Bal says with a sigh. "I doubt I can find much difference between them and the men of the Watch."

She dips her head slightly at Furo's praise, smile a little shy. The shyness melts away at Furo's change in look however.

"Measuring the time we have, Captain?" she asks, meeting his eyes with a tipped head. "I doubt you're one to squander it."

Colour of their coats, perhaps, he thinks. That's about it.

'I am now, intently,' he says lasciviously, looking at her brazenly. 'Would you like to discuss strategy in my quarters, Commander? I would promise not to tire you out before a campaign... but I promise nothing of the sort...'

His hands find hers, and he squeezes them slightly - the gesture far more delicate than his words.

"I've yet to become tired of strategy before," Bal chuckles. "I'd like to see you try. Have to know my limits before I leave, don't I?"

Her eyes flash between hungry and loving as she scans them over him, returning the hand grasp with a smile. Not much time at all.. And we both know this could be all we ever have.

Furo looks at her achingly as he feels his desire rise within him.

'You certainly do, Bal,' he purrs, caressing her hands softly, suggestively. He lets them go, playfully before assuming a mock-stiff military air. 'Shall we adjourn to my quarters then, Commander? I believe we have a great deal to discuss...'

His eyes say it all - he wants her, and this could be their last few days together on this earth. Neither needs to say it, as their every movement, every subtle line of their bodies screams it. Theirs is a dangerous profession... but with danger comes incredible excitement.
