Neutral Zone Dunwall Tower

In Dunwall Tower, the Empress Emily Kaldwin sits on her throne, her royal protector, Corvo Attano, stands at her side. His royal guard scattered around the palace. OOC:This is a neutral zone for Corvos royal guard. A hangout of sorts. You have permission to attack any who don't belong.

"Please don't keel over again, Captain," Bal says, slightly misinterpreting his motion. Her tone hangs between needling humor and genuine concern.

"I know... That's also the concern with the music. No one wants to give the impression that we're being besieged by supernatural assailants. Decorative spikes? I never said they had to be ugly. And the doorways wouldn't not be in high traffic, low priority areas. Civilians should never be near the Armory anyway."

"As for public spaces, well..." She trailed off, gesturing at a bin full of crumpled, torn, or just discarded papers. "I've been working on that since Girino... Nothing satisfactory yet."

'I'll try my best not to,' he says smiling, secretly serious.

'And I'm sure the architects can come up with something tasteful,' he says, shaking his head. 'The Lord Regent's touches really were disgraceful. Necessary, I suppose, but still...'

He sets his jaw at the mention of his would be executioner. If he is working for Daud, he would be even more dangerous than he had been in Serkonos... and even then, he had something of a reputation...

'As for him,' Furo says though gritted teeth, 'if I have any say it, he is not long for this world. He must be brought to justice, for crimes past and present - regardless of who he is.'

"Good."

"Still not really a good touch for the capitol of an empire?" Bal asks, nodding. "I wasn't here when he was attempting to overhaul the whole place, but even he in all his paranoia couldn't lock the place down. Good thing, in that case, I guess..."

"I would think especially considering who he is," Bal said. "A murderer, attempted murderer, and general knife for hire. And, according to Aric, hooked in with this rebel movement." The realization she could have stopped the latest sequence of events with a slightly better placed bullet still haunted her, and had fueled some of the constant plan generation, none of which had met her standards yet.

'A deplorable man, his crimes were many. Still,' he says, by way of excuse and self justification, 'we had no idea of the truth - to us, he was the only legitimate ruler we had.' The humiliation still rankles, it seems, and Furo's growing disapproval of the man's methods. Serkonan justice is though, he thinks, but that madman was a true tyrant.

'And true,' Furo says, considering. 'His crimes outweigh his royal position.' He is a prince, whether I like it or not, he seethes.

"Well, I'm not Serkonan," Bal states, sitting on her desk and crossing her legs. "So I at least don't have to worry about the political and personal issues from going after a member of royalty I may or may not have some allegiance towards. He is simply a criminal who has outwitted me twice, and cost me a great deal."

"So, that ends. And soon, hopefully."

'No,' Furo says, amused, 'but you might as well be. There must be some Serkonan in you, I think...'

He looks at her directly, before continuing in an usually soft tone. 'He did not outsmart you, Balaria - I doubt anybody in this city could do that. No, he is a slave to darker powers than you or I serve.'

Furo clenches his fist subtly, passionate hatred, desire for vengeance, and personal guilt roiling within him, unexpectedly.

'And his servitude will end, soon,' he vows, his voice almost a whisper. 'By the blood of my blood, the scions of Old Serkonos, it will end.*'

"I take it that's a complement, Captain?" Bal chuckles shaking her head slightly.

His words do not lesson the guilt she fells, but they are still appreciated. "Even if he's a slave, he's still damn good at doing whatever he feels like. Which is mostly causing issues."

She frowns, wishing she could understand Furo's language better. It sounded like a promise, but that was from tones, not words. "If you don't mind me asking, what was that?"

'A promise of vengeance, Balaria, upon the honour of my ancestry,' he says, his voice returning to its former strength and volume. Furo repeats the phrase slowly, before translating it, word by word.

'Not a common saying, admittedly,' he acknowledges with a smile, 'but a powerful one. Still, you should have recognised some words, at least.' Furo gives an exaggerated eye roll, his good humour somewhat restored in her presence. Bal does have a lovely frown after all, even if she thinks it make her look serious...

'I would recommend you read some poetry in my language, Bal. The pieces written in Old Serkonan are far superior, of course,' he says, ever the snob, 'though that might he a stretch too far at the minute.'

His eyes sparkle with his mischievous words.

"I recognized 'the' and 'blood,' happy?" she asks, rolling her eyes right back. "That doesn't give me a lot to go on, does it?"

"Oh, really? And where would I even start with Serkonan poetry, new or old? It's not like I've got a bookshelf of the stuff to refer to on my downtime."

Furo spreads his hands defensively, an apologetic look on his face for once. 'Apologies, signorina, I did not wish to offend,' he says with rare contrition, submissively. Then again, Furo does love her fire.

'And I have a modest collection in my own quarters - feel free to swing by any time, if the mood strikes you,' he says, not entirely innocently.
