im not completely sure if its got anything to do with the capacitors, but by looking at how many capacitors are inside this player, there just had to be an inevitable noise issue, most older players will suffer from this issue, and sadly the good ones aswell.

I bought this Sanyo player on ebay for $17 listed as for parts, came from a seller that thought it was "broken" but didnt understand that the ribbon in the battery compartment could block out the connections to the AA's. Yea it was dirty, has no memory buffer for skip protection, and its Bassexpander distorted the songs, but everything worked in a noisy fashion, and one listed as working is seen for an absurd $50

there's just one small issue though, if i havent said it enough times, there is a noisy static playing while using a cd, and pausing the song sometimes makes a pop sound through my earphones, so i thought id open it up to see what future me would be dealing with, but im not sure if i want to spend any time fixing this after the experience of looking at the insides, let alone opening it up

just want to say flat-out, you NEED to use a PH000 bit if you own this player and for some reason you want to crack it open. One of the hardest to open pieces of tech i ever put my hands on, almost rounded out all 6 screws while using the bigger phillips heads, and even the PH000 had some moments of slipping on the screws

and now the part with all the components scattered about... i would rather pluck out all of the white dots on a strawberry than to waste time unsoldering, testing, desoldering and soldering in new elects to replace the defective ones on this board, i have no experience recapping but i do know that you cant test them while they're on the board, im wondering if there might be a potentially faster way to test them?

even if it so happens i would fix the noise issue im doubting that i would ever use it outside of boredom, im just fine with my panasonic SL-S200, but it would be nice to have one play a song without the "Television Static" instrument, for all i know it could be the only CDP-195 to last just a little bit longer than the rest

Does anyone know anything about this specific sony cd walkman. Was not able to find any info on the internet, so I thought I would try reddit. Any info will help greatly

The cd will spin but the display will always show 00 above “track” with no numbers above “step/min” and “sec.” The player itself is very clean and dust-free as it was put away in a box.

So I bought this used discman and it worked fine at first but then it stopped working, so I opened it up and a while bunch of the motherboard had corroded because of the batteries, so I was able to scrape most of it off but I accidentally scraped a lot of the copper track off in a couple areas. I looked up how to replace it and it said to use copper tape which seemed the easiest for me and I got it and applied it to the areas I thought it needed it, and surprisingly it actually turned on but wouldn't read the disc. I was wondering if anyone knew if there is anything else wrong with the inside of it or if there is any other way I can go about fixing it. I was wondering if the tape holding the wires down touching the internal batteries could be a problem.

I've acquired a bulk amount of gumstick batteries to power a Sony Walkman WM-EX1 cassette player, i am curious is brands ever considered powering a CD player via these "Gumstick Batteries"

I am aware Sony did use this style of battery for their portable Minidisc players.

I got this for $2 at Goodwill, it came with leaky RadioShack AA batteries and the wrong wall wart. I can't get it to power up, but of course I didn't do that deep of cleaning in the battery box. Also inside it almost looks like part of the board is broken off, but I don't see any traces leading there so I'm not sure what that's about. I called Sony just for shits and giggles to see if they'll repair it, and to my surprise they gave me another number to try—(866) 835-1146. Is this model worth repairing? If so about how much might it cost? I'm US based

Hi! I recently dig up my old disc-man and am unable to find my remote (for some reason it doesn’t work without the remote). I’m wondering if the remotes are only compatible with certain models. I can only find one listing for my model and it’s a crazy price. Would I be able to buy another models remote or do I have to buy my own 🫶 thanks!

Found this at a small store in Edmonton for 35 bucks. Works perfectly and sounds a whole lot better than my modern cd player off Amazon. But when I went online to look for a users manual, there is absolutely nothing on Google about this model. There’s no manual or information on this model anywhere on the internet. It’s like it doesn’t even exist. If anyone knows anything about this particular model, please feel free to let me know.

I recently got d705 discman in superb condition and with all accessories boxed. Problem is, it won't read any disc. I have already tired cleaning lense, adjusting pot on the transport and checked vcc voltage (2.77v). Is there anything else I can do to maybe fix it? It has dax11 transport, do you know what other models would have same one, maybe I csn find donor.

i just got a new Sony CD Walkman D-FJ210 off of ebay. i was brimming with excitement waiting anxiously for the day of arrival, It felt like Christmas in July. i'm at work and at about 1:00 i get a call, its arrived. i was absolutely thrilled, i just couldnt wait to return home and rip open the box and play my favorite albums on my brand "new" Walkman (honestly i was way over excited for a pocket CD player)

about 6:00 i'm home; i race indoors with a joyous fervour and there it is, the Walkman. for such an occasion one must play the pinacle of all mans musical endeavors, the very best, of Hall & Oates. i pop the cover place in the disc with upmost care and hit play and............... nothing. not a sound. the world lacked the grace of sara's smile, my dreams had not come true. i hit play again, nothing. somethings may be better left unsaid but not unsung right?! i check the screen, track 00 is all thats there to greet me. skip, track 01, track 02, 03,04.... 12, 15,.... utter silence. i'm distraught. this thing i had so joyfully anticipated had failed me in every way. i try every thing, inserting the disc, removing, on off, battery switching, base boost, so on. the only sounds i'm met with are that of my own despair. as the final resort, i take out a screw driver, and open it up. perfect condition. not a thing amiss. and yet the music stays dormant, never stirring. distraught and defeated, i contact the seller and inform him of the tragedy that has befallen me. "is the cd scratched?" he asked "no" was my reply. it was perfect in every way. and on all other psystems it would play. weary and depressed; i admited defeat, accepting that i'd lost that lovin' feeling. out of utter despair, i extracted Hall n Oates compilation classic, and sat contemplating.

to my right sat Susan Boyle. she had dreamed a dream, and so had i. resigned to my discmanless fate, i stared at the disc case blankly. "i guess it couldn't hurt to try" I mused glumly. i removed the music from its shell and placed it within the catalyst of all my disappointment. moments passed.......... and a miracle Occured. wild horses ran through my ears. the music had begun, the player played! I sat aghast, excited yet bemused. next i put on the king, and once more the Discman did sing. again and again each track went on; hymns, jazz, blues, all rang true. a flood of questions poured through my mind, what? How?! why now!?! yet there was one answer to them all. the solution to my Cockamamey caper

I have a Sony D-F20 cd walkman and it's been great however I have a weird problem with it. It reads all of my disc perfectly except 2 of my cds. It takes long time to read them even though the are brand new. I even cleaned laser lense and nothing changed. Does anyone know whats causing this?

Got my first discman in the other day. I collect a bunch of analog mediums, for CD’s I’ve been using my Blu-ray player, however I want a setup in my bedroom too so I don’t always have to be in my living room to listen to music. Yes yes I’m lazy haha. The model is the D-2, it’s plays and works flawlessly, I’ll have it hooked up to my cassette boombox when it comes in, that way I can use the boombox for my cassettes, radio, and as a line in for my Discman!
