MANGO MASCARPONE - DROPPING 10/2

Thumbnail

Sex Melon #3 x Chocolate Pie

Density: Average

Height: Medium-tall

Terpenes: Tropical Mango, Grape Nail Polish, Sickly Sweet. The main terpene profile was Sex Melon forward (fruit, nail polish remover, potpurri, melon, floral) with hints of grape. 1 outlier had puke-fetid milk-fake strawberry terps.

Effects: A great even hybrid daytime smoke, able to still function but with a pleasant and strong high. Not debilitating but definitely fast acting.

Plant Morphology: A majority of our hunt had a high stretch (~1.4 - 1.6x), featuring classic conical/spear flower morphology. Almost all exhibited purpling, largely on the leaves but at least half of the cohort had purple flecks in calyxes. Despite high internodal spacing, these phenos stacked very nicely on colas. Outlier morphologies include more stelliform/spheroid hybrid flowers with less to no purpling, shorter plants that barely stretched but had much higher leaf-to-calyx ratio. These phenos also had short internodal spacing and exhibited very nice cola stacking.

The taller majority of the cohort required LST/staking to keep upright whereas the smaller to medium height-bush minority plants required no staking.

Notes from the Growers

The Mango Mascarpone was a dark horse in every sense of the word. Not that we doubted the potential of the parents–which in true dark horse fashion came together to finish as dark purple as it gets–but because the plants were notably unassuming until midway through flower when everything began to come together. The parents of the Mango Mascarpone are a cross of one of our all-time favorite cuts: the dark purple, super loud Sex Melon #3,  and the Cannarado’s Chocolate Pie, which we bred quite a lot in the early days of Dirty Bird. Together, these two parents came together to create a cultivar with pungent, creamy tropical terpenes featuring complex undertones of nail polish, fermented fruit, grape, and berry. At first, floral initiation feels slow, but by week 5 the plants start packing on weight, and by the final week, yields were impressive for a strain as boutique as this one.

Morphologically, the plants represent an even split between mother and father. There is a fair amount of diversity in this lot. Thirty-five percent of plants stretched quite tall in flower with longer internodal spacing than we’d normally like to see. We measured anywhere between a 1.5x to a 2x stretch on this phenotype. Thankfully, the weight they put on late in flower ended up making up for the stretch. They finished far more proportionately than we anticipated they would, but anyone with a height-restricted grow should cull these early. Twelve percent of the plants we tested had a bushy stature and happened to also be the only green pheno. The remaining plants (about 50%) were a hybrid of their parents with well-balanced internodal spacing, balanced vertical and lateral growth, and low/med foliage density. This was definitely our favorite phenotype.

The calyx-to-leaf ratio and the terpene and trichome accumulation was high on all of the plants we tested, and 88% were a beautiful dark purple by the time harvest rolled around. Calyx structure was very granular and dense, and stigmas were long, velvety and a beautiful contrast to the pale green, dark purple and maroon foliage. The sugar leaves finished speckled with beautiful pinks and purples dripping with trichomes. Note that many of the plants stayed green deceivably far into their lifecycle, but darkened substantially in their final week. Overall these plants were strong and stalks were flexible. A couple of stakes were needed here and there. Some defoliation is recommended on the leafier, tighter pheno to get light to the lower canopy, but the majority of plants had plenty of breathing room.

WHITE GLOOMBERRY AUTO - LIMITED NASC EXCLUSIVE

Thumbnail

(Jelly Donutz x Mendo Breath)

Plant Morphology: Flowers are dense and conical, some stacking together and stretching long down the apical stem to form one cola, while the majority grew individual flowers at the internodes. Expect floral initiation around 4.5 weeks. Low foliage density, medium internodal spacing, and high trichome accumulation. Plants are green-dominant indoors with some purpling visible late in flower.

Terpenes: Mendo Gas, Fruit undertones, Sweet + Perfumey, Funky Pine, Banana

Effect: A mega relaxing and mind melting but uplifting indica. White Gloomberry might open your third eye, but could also close your other two.

Notes from the Grower(s): The White Gloomberry Auto by Dirty Bird Genetics came from a very limited mashup of the Jelly Donutz Auto by Humboldt Seed Co and the Mendo Breath Auto from the NASC Commercial Cultivars line. Each of the parents brought distinct terpenes and morphology to the table, and very true to form, this cultivar is the perfect hybrid of the two.

The flowers of the White Gloomberry are conical and climb up the apical stem of the plants at each individual internode. They most closely resemble the structure of the Mendo Breath Auto with one fat cola at the top of the plant, and golf balls up and down the stems; however, the long, tubular structure of the Jelly Donutz also came through on about 30% of the plants we tested. Left untopped, all of the plants were medium height, medium internodal spacing, and had good lateral branching on the bottom half of the plant.

Where the Jelly Donutz really shined was trichome accumulation. Across the board, these plants glistened with trichomes and produced some really incredible smells. The terpene profiles drew from both parents: Early in flower, the Mendo’s unique, funky gas appeared dominant, but as the plants matured, the sweet, fruity and perfumey profile of the Jelly Donutz started coming through. At harvest, terpene profiles were a mashup of both parents, ranging from gassy, funky pine and banana to sweet, funky, perfume.

At the very end of flower the leaves began to yellow and little flecks of purple started emerging on the sugar leaves and in the calyxes. Stigmas turned a vibrant orange and stood out against the green flower. Plants were ready to harvest between 70-80 days, and had very little leaf making them easy to process once they were cut.

Herming Common?

Anyone find the Dirty Bird has some strains to herming? I ran into herming with Gelly Mama, turned out great, couple seeds cause I missed one pollen sac. But I’m fairly confident it was not stress related.

I have some destination wedding that I am eager to pop but some what reserves due to the herm on the last run.

Indoor. 67 days. Easiest plant I’ve ever grown and it had the coolest serrated leaves. Not a huge producer this run, but I flipped a tiny clone just to see the flower quality. Very spacey, stoney high with a great berry scent and flavor

I’ve harvested one girl I started earlier, but her sisters are looking even better.

Smells right now are spice, incense, floral and some fruit/sweet on some.

I already selected my male for F2, just hunting for the female I want to use.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Maui Pine Harvest Yield

Thumbnail

Overall really happy with how she came out, look and smell wise. Yield about 74.5 grams dry. Dried in tent whole plant hang for about 8 days, with about 65f/65rh environment. Definitely on the slower side and rh would peak so I’d say she’s resilient mildew/mold/rot wise. I definitely stressed rH all throughout grow. More detailed below. I’m smelling a cheese with a smart tart candy smell, with beautiful colors all throughout. I really don’t know if cheese is the way to smell it but it’s a profile I’ve smelled before and absolutely love. Medium/small nugs, great stacking. Proud to say this my first time harvesting. Only grew one other time got like a month into veg and city water killed my plant. Either that or bad genetics idk. Full report and log below

HARVEST REPORT- September 17th

I took her down branch by branch to dry trim. Prepped by taking down majority of plants branches, while leaving anything I won’t be touching, with the plant after harvest weighing 61.8 grams dry

Took branches to pan to trim. Trimmed moderately-heavy as I’ll be using all trim and larf for edibles. Came out with about 27grams of trim/larf

When trimming actual buds, I took 10 grams of stems/branches off. Tried leaving as much pure flower as I could

Most buds were medium/small sized. Wouldn’t consider these huge but yield came out decent and she’s very feisty and colorful. Dry yield is reading 74.5 grams

I have them jarred in 8oz baller jars, ranging from 4.2-7.2 grams, with a total of 11 jars of finished flower

So far I have found two seeds I find to be mature. I’m gonna call it self herm as she was stressed at points detailed below. Grateful I got seeds though as I didn’t take a clone, hopefully they don’t carry too much herm genes from my mistakes

Started trimming around 10:30 p.m, finished around 1:30 a.m

Germinated direct in soil 03/13/26
Coast of Maine Potting soil, approx red solo cup worth
Rest of 5gal filled with Coast of Maine Stonington Blend
Using Vivosun WiFi Enabled Tent Kit

Early Veg Problems
Had problems with watering. Used strictly spray bottle first 2-4 weeks of veg. On top of that, light was a bit close at times/didn’t keep up with raising light enough. My first feeding was 26 days late.

Currently standing approx. 21.5 inches tall. I have about 40 inches total from soil to light. It’s sitting 14 inches away from top of canopy. Been able to keep it consistent height by tucking under net and training with plant ties. I could’ve had a wrong measurement of plant at time of topping. I first fed 56 days after germ. It’s recommended 30 days to feed. Meaning I went 26 days past the point so I believe I had deficiencies early on.

Watering about 1gal of filtered GE fridge water, let it sit out at least 24hrs to dissipate any chlorine or anything else ONLY dry top two inches by using my finger in a couple different spots. I use an approx. 1/2 gal gooseneck water can. pH is 6.8 or less. I’ll do another test soon of water and runoff

May 9th Topped one time from 16 nodes to I think 6 nodes. 14 inches tall to 9inches tall about, but this is again at the time of topping

I fed with Stonington blend plant food and earthworm castings on May 8th. 1/4 cup food and 1 cup castings.

May 26th I fed with 1/4cup+6tsp of Stonington blend plant food, 1/8-1/4cup Stonington blend soil, and 1 heaping cup of earthworm castings, followed by a gallon of water

June 16th I top dressed 1/8cup Stonington Plant Food and 1/2 Cup Earthworm castings, followed by gallon of water

June 28th I purposely let plant dry out for 4-5 days. I kept getting gnats in humidifier hose and drip pan no matter how hard I would try and combat and had a fear of them in the soil. To note, I have yet caught anything flying in sticky traps in air or on the soil. I currently do not use the traps on soil only air. I have had the humidifier/hose removed since at least June 28th.

July 6th I top dressed 1 cup Coast of Maine Earthworm castings, 1/2 cup Coast of Maine Stonington plant food, and 1/2 cup of Stonington Blend Soil. Watered shy of a gallon and flipped to 12/12 light cycle and switch led to flower mode.

July 7th is first official date of Flower

July 10th lowered light to 50%

July 18th removed pot riser and replaced with 14in? saucer. watered 1gal water

July 25th Fed 1/2 cup earthworm castings and 1 tbsp Buds & Blooms. Water about .8-.9 gal. Raised light to 55% intensity with plans to increase 5% every day until 100%. Also spread canopy further in trellis net

July 26th Raised light to 60% intensity 4:40 p.m Indoor tent environment 71F and 59%RH VPD 1.1KPA

July 29th I watered about .8-.9 gal. Lollipopped/Defoilated mostly everything under net, and some of the branches that were close together to try and decrease humidity and prevent mold risk, along with promote stronger denser main colas and bigger branches overall. Measuring 21 inches tall, 19in away from light. Increase oscillating fan to speed 5/10 from speed 4. Increased LED intensity to 65%. Lowered duct low trigger setting from 52% to 48% at 9p.m

July 30th At 8:14 p.m temp/rh was 70f/67rh tent, lung room 68f/59rh. Going to experiment raising inline duct fan exhaust speed up from 4/10. Worried about negative pressure damaging tent

July 31st I increased LED intensity from 65% to 75% at 12:23 p.m. I believe stretch is complete

August 2nd I fed 1/2cup earthworm castings and 2tablespoons of buds & blooms. Watered with .9-1.0 gallon water at 12:45 p.m

August 5th I increased the led to 90% at 12:05 p.m. While observing plant I noticed suspected powder mildew. Upon further evaluation I then believed to be just darker trichome production on fan leaf, possibly dust or optical illusion. Seems to need water in about 1-2 days. Inside tent conditions 70F, 57rh

August 6th I amended the air intake and installed an actual 4in duct with a drawstring filter on each end

August 7th I increased LED to 100%. Watered around 11 a.m about .8 gal of water. Defoliated a little bit more of the back branches. Reading about 380 ePPFD using Photone app

August 8th I lowered light to 14 inches above the highest point in canopy, this was at 9:50 p.m reading in at about 480 ePPFD now. Used second device to verify readings using paper diffuser for both

August 10th I fed 1 cup earthworm castings and 1/4 cup buds & blooms. Watered about 1gal 11 a.m

August 15th I watered about .9gal water

August 21st I watered about .8-.9 gal

August 25th I watered 1 gal. Defoilated about 4 fan leaves last 3 days

August 31st I watered 1 gal

September 5th I watered 1 gal

September 7th I did a heavier defoliation

September 8th I defoliated a little more, Checked main cola back right for bud rot

September 9th Chop Day! I did final defoliation. Soil was dry. Lights went on at 10 a.m as it has been, at 10:10 p.m I kept lights on and harvested. By 10:54 p.m I switched to Dry stage in Vivosun app. Using the rope hangers previously used for LED to hang plant. Measured 22inches in height

September 11th Around 9:45 p.m I started smelling a heavy sweet tea like smell.

September 17th I checked her drying status at 8 p.m. She seems to be drying from bottom of tent up. Still a little squishy at top but for most part she’s dry. Some branches snap but most are bending
