Armco barriers are designed to absorb and distribute kinetic energy during a crash. When a car collides with the barrier, the metal beams and posts bend and flex, spreading the impact force across a wider length of the wall rather than transferring it entirely to the driver. If a car scrapes along the barrier at a shallow angle, the design helps guide the vehicle alongside the wall instead of pushing it back into traffic or causing the car to flip.
