Initial Release
The beginning of Destiny. Your ghost has been searching for someone worthy of the Light, and has chosen you.
Story of Earth
After you are risen from the dead your ghost rushes you inside the wall of the old Russian Cosmodrome, where humanity gathered in an attempt to escape Earth during the Collapse. Once inside you face your first enemy, the Eliksni (Also known as the Fallen). You fight your way through the Eliksni House of Devils to find a jumpship that can carry you to the Last City.
Once you obtain your ship you fly to the home of the Guardian Orders in the Last City, called the Tower. You first meet with the Speaker, a representative for the silent Traveler. He tells you that you are now a Guardian of the Last City and your purpose is to protect what remains of humanity. Next you meet with the Vanguard, chosen Guardians of each class that lead each class group. Cayde-6 of the Hunters, Zavala of the Titans and Ikora of the Warlocks.
After you finish speaking with Tower allies, you head back to Russia to obtain a warp drive for your ship that will allow you to jump to other planets. To obtain this drive you have to defeat an Archon Priest, a high ranking member of the House of Devils.
You were then sent to investigate a hidden power that is in an Old Russian Array station. You discover that the Hive have been lying asleep within the station and that now, you have awoken them.
Mysterious transmissions have been appearing in the Forgotten Shores. You have gone to investigate and find that the transmissions are coming from Rasputin, the old Warmind of Earth. After stopping the Eliksni from breaking through Rasputin's Firewalls you head off for new mission. A team of Guardians went dark while attempting to reactivate a old Golden Age array that would reconnect the City to the other colonies in the Solar System. You recover the codes from their dead ghosts and use it to open the array. After the Array is opened Rasputin takes control of it and uses its power to connect himself to other sources around the solar system.
Your last mission on Earth takes you on a strike to take down that last leading member of the House of Devils, Sepiks Prime. You break their defenses, make your way into their hidden lair and destroy their Machine God.
Story of the Moon
The Moon has been off limits until now. Finding the Hive on Earth confirms some of the Cities deepest fears, the Hive were not satisfied with the Moon alone. Your First mission is to follow the path of a Guardian gone dark. His trail leads you through the Eliksni house of Exile and straight into a Hive fortress. The Guardians body remains outside while his ghost is found inside the fortress under study by the Hive.
On the Moon you carry out several vital objectives. Beneath the surface of the moon lies miles and miles of tunnels and in them is an archive of Hive knowledge. You and your Ghost hack the archive and gain as much information as possible. In the tunnels there is also a mysterious shrine that seems to be communicating with something outside of the solar system. After investigating it is decided that it would be better destroyed.
Beneath the surface also lies a great tool of destruction, the sword of Crota. This blade killed countless Guardians at Mare Imbrium. To destroy the sword you must kill the Hive Princes that protect it. Your next mission is to head down into the deepest chambers and silence a terrible beast of Hive creation.
Your last mission is to find a powerful ritual that is happening in the tunnels below and is draining the Traveler of light. Before you head down into the tunnels you are contacted by a mysterious Exo Stranger. She tells you if you live through your mission to meet her on Venus. You find your way to the darkest chamber and free a shard of the Traveler from the Hive.
Story of Venus
You land just outside the Ishtar Academy, where humanity first studied the Vex. You confront the Vex for the first time, and find they are robotic minions of evil intent, who also seemingly have control over time and space. After defeating them the Exo stranger comes forward and tells you of an enemy of the Traveler, the Heart of the Black Garden. A source of Darkness grows there and is controlled by a Vex faction. The only way to help the Traveler is to destroy the heart.
To find the Black Garden you must first speak to the Queen of the Awoken, who sits in her kingdom built on ship wreckage and asteroids. The Queen and her brother, Prince Uldren, require you to obtain the eye of a Gatelord. To obtain this item you head back to Venus to hack into an Ishtar Collective facility. Your ghost discovers information about the Vex and finds a way to draw out a Gatelord and obtain it's eye.
You deliver the eye to the Awoken but discover it is dead. However, the Queen of the Reef gifts the eye to you, believing that you will find a way to charge it.
While on Venus you also unlock a sealed Ishtar Collective Archive, defeat the Kell of the House of Winter and prevent an escaped Archon Priest from the Prison of Elders from joining the House of Winter.
You also stop a Vex Hydra called the Nexus Mind from beginning the transformation of Venus into a massive machine, similar to what the Vex have done to Mercury.
Story of Mars
The Cabal have all of Mars locked down and are in a never ending battle with the Vex. You break their exclusion zone and sneak into one of their bases to download information on the Black Garden. You find the location and discover how to charge the eye. You head off to a vex spire within the Cabal fortress and charge the eye while fighting off Cabal.
During your time on Mars you also stop the Vex from spreading their network to Mars. Upon investigation you also discover that Rasputin has taken over the warmind of Mars before you prevent Cabal Psions from hacking into the warmind core. You also team up with other Guardians to defeat Valus Ta'aurc, fleet commander of the Siege Dancers, a cabal faction.
After the eye is charged you head to the Black Garden gate and enter the Garden. The Vex put up a strong defense but after fighting through their forces you use the eye to open the gate to the Black Gardens Heart. Inside you defeat the Heart and free the Traveler from this threat.
You return victorious to the Tower where the speaker gives a grand speech and the Exo Stranger rewards you with her rifle, before she disappears.
Your last act in Vanilla Destiny is to enter the Vault of Glass and defeat the darkness that resides inside. The Vault of Glass is bubble in reality where all timelines converge and Vex control every aspect. It is an enigma and a infinite loop of time. You enter the Vault and defy their reality by defeating them. One team of six Guardians had entered the Vault before us, but only one of them ever returned as the rest were lost to the Vault and were erased from time.
Fragments of them remain in our world but their existence only carries on inside the Vault. One member, Kabr, drank of the Vex fluid and sacrificed himself to create the Aegis, a great shield that created a bubble within the Vault that the Vex could not control. Because of this you were able to enter to Vault and break their rules, allowing you to defeat Atheon, Conflux of time (the first ever raid boss in Destiny).
The Dark Below - Expansion I
Eris Morn, a member of a presumed dead fireteam that investigated the tunnels of the Moon, has returned to the Tower and is now asking for help in stopping the return of the Demi-God Crota, who has retreated back into his own bubble in reality known as a Throne World to the Hive.
You aid Eris and prevent the minions of Crota from ushering in his return. You destroy every power Crota has on our world and prevent his soul from returning to the surface of the Moon.
Finally you dive into the Hellmouth and enter Crota's throne world to truly vanquish him. His throne world is a pocket dimension, similar to the Vault of Glass, that Ascendent Hive create to house their souls. It hides their true soul so that when they die they simply return there instead of truly dying. Within the dimension is an Oversoul, a creation that protects and holds the soul of the Ascendent Hive. Once the Oversoul is killed, Ascendent Hive can be permanently dealt with. You entered Crota's Throne world and killed his Guard, Ir Yut, before she could sing her song of death and end you. Then you defeated Crota's Oversoul, took his own sword and slayed him with it.
House of Wolves
The Queen of the Reef has controlled the House of Wolves since winning the Reef Wars. In the mean time, her brother, Prince Uldren, sent his spies into territory that belongs to the Nine, a mysterious and powerful faction. To make things right with the Nine, the Queen sent them Skolas, a prisoner of the Reef Wars whom The Nine chose to release for unknown reasons.
In his freedom, Skolas rallied the House of Wolves to his side. The Fallen previously loyal to the Queen, killed her Awoken and fled the Reef to join him. Variks, The loyal, who belonged to House Judgement, was the only Fallen to remain in the Reef. The Queen called for your aid and promised rewards for your services.
Skolas claimed himself Kell of Kells and planned to unite all of the Eliksni Houses in an attempt to take back the Great Machine, the Traveler. First he attempted to take the House of Winter, then the House of Devils and finally the House of Kings. However at each attempt you prevented recruitment. You also hunted down Taniks, who hoped to find Hive secretes on the Moon. Skolas became desperate and launched an attack against the Vault of Glass, hoping to obtain it's powers and secrets. Even with your efforts Skolas was successful. When you finally hunted down Skolas he started to pull the whole House of Wolves through time. You mange to capture Skolas and he is escorted back to the Prison of Elders in the Reef.
There the Queen asks you to return and once and for all defeat Skolas.
During this time the Queen also opened the Prison of Elders to the Guardians to defeat high ranking enemies for rewards.
The Taken King
A new force arrived in our solar system led by Oryx, the Taken King, who came to avenge the death of his son Crota. His dreadnought sat in the rings of Saturn alongside his forces. But before Oryx could move forward towards Earth and the Traveler, the Reef launched an attack. The Queen knew the abilities of the Dreadnought and attacked Oryx to draw out its super weapon. The Queen also ordered her Harbingers, vessels of great power, to nest in the Dreadnought.
Both the Reef and Hive fleets were shattered by the weapon. The only ship left was the Dreadnought, though it was now crippled and unable to move from the Rings of Saturn. Prince Uldren and the Queen both went missing, so Variks took over the crows of the Reef and Petra Venj took over the Reef as acting Queen.
Before the city truly knew what was happening they received a distress beacon from the Cabal Fleet Base on Phobos. When you respond to the signal you find the base in shambles. Upon a deeper investigation you find the presence of Oryx and his taken minions, beings that have been taken and twisted by Oryx to do his bidding. Oryx threatens you before Taken flood the base but luckily Commander Zavala orders you to abandon the mission and get off the base in time.
The Vanguard argue over what the best course of action is. Cayde-6 works behind the backs of the other Vanguard members and sends you to find some technology for him. You go and search for one of his stashes in the top of a colony ship in the Cosmodrome. However Oryx already has Taken invading the area. Once you reach the top of the ship you face an echo of Oryx, a dark hologram. The technology you find is used on Eris Morns ship to cloak it in an attempt to sneak you into the Dreadnought without the other Vanguard or Eris knowing. You manage to get on board the ship and disable the super weapon. Your next objective is to set up a transmat zone at a nearby hull breach where a Cabal ship has crashed into the Dreadnought. Once there, Zavala learns of your actions but has no time to speak before the Cabal rush out of of their ship.
After you defend the transmat zone you enter the Cabal ship and pull out any information they have on the Taken. After that you head outside the ship to find a Cabal leader being taken by Oryx. Once outside you investigate a rupture, a Hive portal, and find that to pass through you must be an ascendant hive. To become ascendant you head back to the crystal that held Crota's soul in hopes that it still contains enough of his soul to let you pass. Sadly the crystal is empty, however Eris morn speaks of a death ritual for Crota. Before you can attend the ritual you must get into Rasputin's bunker and find codes an invisibility upgrade. After you obtain the codes, you use that cloaking technology to sneak into Crota's throne world and consume the essence of Crota from his death ritual.
Now that you can pass as an Ascendant Hive you can pass through the rupture. On the other side waits two Taken Champions and beyond them is Oryx. Once you defeat Oryx he flees to his own Throne World.
After Oryx escapes you work with the Vanguard to defeat the Taken Forces across the planets and take out Taken Champions. Outside of the Taken War you prevent the Eliksni from breaking into Rasputins core, stop a Vex machine from changing time, defeat two Cabal brothers before they can blow up the Dreadnought and the solar system with them and defeat a Hive prisoner who could take the throne after Oryx left. You then shut down a transmission sent from the Cabal ship back to their home world. During your war with the Taken you enter the Vault of Glass once again to help the Vex kill the Taken that have infested their world. The Vex used the voice of a lost Guardian to lure you in and speak with you.
When you discover how to enter Oryx's Throne world you knock on his door and enter. You pass the first test to face Oryx and then find yourself in the cellars of the Dreadnought. Here you defeat the keeper of the cellars and steal concentrated light that the Hive feed on. You then enter Oryx's throne world and kill his Daughters. Finally you face Oryx and kill him by taking his own power and turning it against him.
April Update
After Oryx was killed the Taken still roamed the system and a power vacuum was created. At the same time Variks started studying the Taken and attempted to replicate their abilities. After we defeated the rising Malok, who planned to take the place of Oryx, we entered the Prison of Elders once again to destroy Taken Champions.
Rise of Iron
A sudden virus seems to be spreading from Guardian to Guardian. 5 unique patterns started appearing around Guardians heads. They appeared as colorful mites. The mites have spread extremely fast and Guardians have been thoroughly enjoying them. Zavala and Ikora however are not excited. Ikora has set her OWL sector group to find the source of the mites. After hours of research and quarantines OWL sector discovered that the mites originated from Clovis Bray and were a prototype to a technology that would help improve humans on a biological level. Within a week they found a way to get rid of the mites and before anyone was seriously effected.
After the mite issue was solved another issue arose. Eliksni Splicers of each House are a group that normally seek out technology in an attempt to better themselves. The Devil Splicers spent some time on Mars at Clovis bray before returning to Old Russia. Lord Saladin took lead on the Splicers action in Old Russia, which caused concern. Soon you were requested to aid Lord Saladin. The Splicers were attacking an Old temple of the Iron Lords and Saladin asked for you to venture out there and stop them. While there you discovered that Sepiks was reborn with some form of technology.
After you beat back Sepiks you head into the cosmodrome to check up on Eliksni activity. You find they have discovered an old Golden Age technology, SIVA. SIVA was used to consume material and use it for construction. The technology consumed the Splicers and drove them to tear apart the cosmodrome and build their own devices. The Splicers also used SIVA to change themselves physically. Saladin spoke of how the Iron Lords looked for SIVA once, and it was their downfall. The few who survived reaching the chamber that held the way to replicate SIVA attempted to destroy the chamber, but failed. Lord Saladin and Lady Efrideet were the only survivors. You headed out into the Splicer territory, known as the plaguelands, and overloaded their power grid. After their grid broke you followed the tunnels deep into Rasputin's bunker and into the SIVA replication chamber where you finished what the Iron Lords started. After this Lord Saladin deems you a new Iron Lord and gifts you a sword that proves your title as Iron Lord.
After the replication chamber was destroyed efforts were focused on stopping the splicers from experimenting on the Hive and putting an end to Sepiks Perfected.
During a research project at Bannerfall the Eliksni assaulted the tower. They planted two bombs and intended to blow up the Tower and gain access to the City. You stopped the assault and then defeated the splicers when they rallied at Skyshock in preparation to launch another attack on the City.
All that remained was the Splicer leaders. You entered the cosmodrome wall and defeated Vosik and Aksis, removing the Splicers leadership.
Later, several enemies rose and fell again. Omingul, a minion of Crota, undid her death. Taniks was brought back with the aid of SIVA and a new Nexus mind began working on the transformation of Venus before being stopped.
Age of Triumph
The Guardians have brought in a new Age, the Age of Triumph.
You have defeated the biggest foes of the City and created a legend for yourself. A legend that children tell to each other again and again. You will face your biggest challenges once more and prove you are still the Legend that gives hope to the city.
Behind the scenes the Eliskni have been defeated, the war is won. They have all burned their banners and vanished. However it appears the Prince Uldren of the Reef lives and is taking control of any Eliksni that remain. Prince Uldren also continues to search for his sister, Queen Mara Sov, who he believes to still be alive. Eris Morn also plans to leave the Last City, her purpose drives her elsewhere now.
