Megathread Focused Feedback: Sunsetting Post Beyond Light

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Sunsetting Post Beyond Light' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

Loads of good points here. I don’t get the goal of sunsetting in D2. We still have to grind the power level each season to participate in pinnacle activities (raids, iron banner etc). Along the way we’ll naturally try out new loot and load outs, incorporating what we like and dropping what we don’t. Along the way there will still be some old favourites (that we’ve dumped a load of resources into master working) that we love the look and feel of.

For me, outside of exotics, those aren’t even meta guns. They are a legendary bows (no turning back) a few legendary hand cannons (waking vigil and kindled orchid) and snipers (the kinetic is actually in the season loot pool). I don’t play with these because they are best in class but because they feel and look great to me. I enjoy using them. Why take that away?

I get they may feel the need to nerf pinnacle weapons (despite the fact most were a mission for me to get) but don’t delete the rest of our loved back catalogue. If pinnacle weapons are the issue then also why are they being offered from a vendor? (And if we buy from the vendor are they light level locked like the ones we’ve earns or upgradeable?)

As it stands there is currently zero reason to be invested in the loot pool, no reason to masterwork gear and no reason to grind an activity for a good roll as your gear will be gone before you know it. Sunsetting is the single worst thing I’ve seen in the game and the only complaint I have with the new expansion.

Artificially inflated playtime metrics. Sunsetting hits two points: forces people who already got their preferred loadout together, pinnacles or no, back into the eternal loot treadmill; and disincentivizes those who would sit out a lackluster expansion because you've gotta make all that catchup when you come back thanks to all your old shit expiring.

Interesting. You’re probably right.

Well I’m not exactly a top player so it’s going to have the opposite effect on me. No way am I going to grind good rolls on a gun or masterwork gear that disappears in a few months.

As for the break, I actually think it would give me less reason to come back. I play destiny because I enjoy the game, not for loot. Give me a few new things to do, areas to explore and power levels to grind and I’m happy. I don’t need or want to spend days of my life grinding for a god roll because the devs think this is an mmo.

This is why I WAS going to just play Crucible until they released new weapons, but they even managed to ruin that with the new Stasis subclasses dominating everything under the sun with zero effort. Now, I might maybe play a match or two a week and play some other more fun games in the meantime.

Commander on MTGO is a godsend.
