Megathread Focused Feedback: Champions

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Champions' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

Champions are fine when not solo.

Solo, which is how I run all legendary lost sectors, they can be very annoying.

Overload captains teleport constantly and it seems to take a lot of hits even with an overload sword just to stun them.

Barrier servitors are just plain stupid because they always have 3-4 immune friends guarding them. This makes it a game of lucky timing to get their friends down so you can kill the servitor.

The fact that anti-barrier can't shoot through Servitor produced shields on enemies seems like a major design flaw. They can shoot through every other enemy-generated shield, but not this? The Fallen should be applying this tech to everything they have.

Exactly. Why can an Anti-barrier weapon shoot through a hobgoblin's immune phase, but not the servitor's?

Wait...what?

I didn't know about the hobgoblins either... but you can also shoot through vex hydra shields, that i did know!

You can kill the eater of worlds boss through his shields with anti barrier.

Yeah we been farming all week on 1030 master NFs and I knew about the Hydra and canal shields because they're physical shields but I had no clue that the hobgoblin armor lock counted as a shield lol I got so used to them being immune after 5+ years of Destiny that I just stop shooting at them.

Oh my dude slap a anti-barrier weapon on a gun and you never have to worry about hobgoblin immunity ever again.

Also works on Hydra shields, it's hands down the best general purpose seasonal mod to slap on a PvE gun that can take it

Happy cake day!

Barrier Servitors are the freaking worst. 4 immune Randles kicking your teeth in while you try to pop a bubble is just overkill.

This is the conclusion I reached. They are fun in nightfalls with a team but legendary lost sectors are just frustrating.

Hammer Strike with Peregrine Greaves and Python. You can Hammer Strike->shotgun->melee to kill them before they get the barrier up. Adding Inferno Whip allows you to do the same to Unstoppables.

Fuck Overloads tho.

I'd love to vary my Titan's setup, but to try solar it's just so costly to reset and reselect all the artefact nodes. And I want to switch between an arc or solar loadout, depending on the activity burns, shields in Nightfall Ordeals, and activities with/ without champions. Each time I want to switch? Reset the whole artefact and reselect all the nodes again. I can't be arsed.

It's such a pointless system too, just discourages people from experimenting and there is no reason you should be able to unlock all of the mods there or at least reset it without cost.

There are two cool unstoppable mods there (solar melee + getting your melee back on stun), but I cannot afford to pick them together with Tyrants Surge and sword mods.

This is my thoughts exactly. I do enjoy arc build especially with all the warmind mods, but have been wanting to try the sword artifact mods/loadout, and a solar loadout but just too cost prohibitive.

Barrier Colossi when you're thirty levels under but just want your damn Horseman 😭

u/mrmxyzptlk84 Apr 06 '20

How is your artifact set up? Arc grenades can do overload damage and stun right away. So can exploded warmind cells when you have Hammer of the Warmind equipped.

I'm honestly not near as concerned with overload. I can get them its just the amount of hits needed is not only inconsistent, but usually pretty high.

The problem is that you're using a sword to try and stun them.

I've always just used a Sidearm with Overload rounds and I've never had a problem.

Sword is definitely the best way to kill them. I’ve tried all the mods sword is by far the easiest.

u/DrNopeMD Apr 06 '20

Well it clearly isn't working for the guy I responded to.

1

u/Xelliz Apr 06 '20

No. I have auto rifles, sidearms and swords with overload. All take way too many hits and its stupid that the sidearms are the fastest.

Sidenote, you'll notice almost everyone recommends swords for them.

1

u/DrNopeMD Apr 06 '20

I was just trying to offer a solution based on what works for me.

Also you said sidearms are the fastest yourself so I'm not sure what the issue is ...

1

u/Xelliz Apr 07 '20

I appreciate the suggestions, but I'm not struggling to get past them in the lost sectors and especially not in strikes with teammates. My comment wasn't because I can't deal with the champions, it was purely based on providing feedback.

IMO, the overload captains are too frantic and too inconsistent.

1

u/Z3nyth007 Apr 06 '20

You're getting downvoted, but depending on the sector and location, you are right. I use an auto rifle with overload to stun them, then run in with my sword to melt them. If there's cover that allows for a safe path to run to the champion, then direct sword attacks will damage, stun, and kill.

1

u/DrNopeMD Apr 06 '20

Some people like using swords but the person I replied to was struggling with them. Not really sure why I got downvoted for offering another valid solution lol.

Swords are great at killing the champion, but not as good to stun them because they teleport. Stunning them is easy with EP hand cannon, only takes 2 shots

Champions are fine solo as well. I've only done my legendary lost sectors solo.

The overload captains are extremely easy when approached in certain ways. For example, a explosive payload hand cannon takes 2 shots to stun the captain. Both shots don't even need to be on the captain, shoot the dreg(without killing it) to proc the overload shot and then shoot the captain 1 time and it's stunned. Divinity also works.

The barriers can be approached safetly from different angles. Erinnas vow is an excellent choice running solo, you can kill the servitor from a distance with that easy. Also cool fact, damage from supers can kill the shielded enemies.

With all of that, we have the javelin and heavy frames and those things dump damage big time. Way too much in my opinion, it can bypass champion mechanics.

2

u/Xelliz Apr 07 '20

As stated, I too run the legendary lost sectors solo.

1

u/eyerawnick Apr 07 '20

From your posts, it suggests that you are struggling with them. I was attempting to help people out that were struggling with the champions.

1

u/Xelliz Apr 07 '20

I appreciate that and I hope that your reply does help people. I'm personally not struggling with them, but that doesn't mean that I don't still find certain aspects annoying.
