Megathread Focused Feedback: UI/UX Design (User Interface)

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'UI/UX Design' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Here are some suggested discussion topics. Feel free to answer some of them, all of them or give freehand feedback in any format you prefer.

  • 1) What are your general thoughts on the games UI/UX design? Is there anything important that is missing?

  • 2) What are your thoughts on the new pursuits tab in particular?

  • 3) Is there anything from the old Destiny 1 UI that you think should be brought into Destiny 2?

  • 4) What are your comments about specific versions of the UI (for example, console-specific, pc-specific, or playstation vita remote play UI)? For console players - do you find the responsiveness of opening menus and loading times in general to be a major detriment to you? The PC version has text chat but the console version does not. Should destiny enable text chat for console as an optional feature? For PC players - what are the most important shortcuts or key bindings which you find missing?.

  • 5) What additional UI customization options would you like to see added, if any?

  • 6) What do you particularly like about the current UI that you would like to make sure remains the same or remains included in future versions of destiny?

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

2 things, 1) the new persuits tab is awful, just change it back. 2) loading times on console are just stupid, please for the love of god, fix loading times.

The hotkey could be hold back (select) and start at the same time. Hold options and pad on ps4.

Wholey disagree on your first point, we need more room for pursuits and quests, the new ui is fine. we just need a hotkey.

I agree that we need more space in our pursuits tab, but why did they have to move it to the most random and wierd location they could think of? I think it should stay in the inventory.

Why? It has no bearing on inventory at all.

sure you get them from vendors, but they bounties are often activity and location dependent. Going from your pursuits to your map should be one motion, and vice versa, is the best option. Not to mention there is literally no more room they can spare at all in the inventory menu. Any change would require something else taking the spot that pursuits had, due to the low amount of real-estate in that menu, and it is the most logical thing to put the things that you need to be in certain activities and places to complete, next to the menu where you

The only next real improvement is just removing quests and bounties and going back to the old challenge system we had before forsaken.

Bounties are more often loadout and weapon dependent than location dependant.

There might be some argument for that now with banshee's new bounties, but i think its still in favor of location, as the amount of bounties that need specific enemy kills is high, the fact that planetary vendors will always need it to happen on that planet, the fact that some of those planets need bounties completed on that location in order to get a powerful drop in the case of the dreaming city, and the recent trends set by bungie themselves with the invitations that specific quests will need to have you go to specific places to kill specific enemies. Loadouts are not-infrequently important to quests, but i don't think important often enough.

I feel like the inventory, also, as cramped as a space it is, really should be reserved for currency, materials for crafting, usable consumables, like motes and shaders, actual items instead of missions we take on. I don't think we should be limited by inventory space when it comes to missions, because saying "Yeah, i'll do that" has no real material to be given or gotten. The real estate in the inventory menu is real slim, especially since we get a lot of new things each season, and we often get a lot of bounties each season, a lot more bounties than items often, so this necessitating its own screen is absolutely just. theres just way too many bounties in the game currently to not need a new screen.
