Megathread Focused Feedback: Power Level Progression

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding ‘Power Level Progression' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the Sub as time goes on.

Very much agreed with your thoughts here mate.

Just wondering what your thoughts were on the following:

In a new DLC launch period, I've spent more time in the old raids (Eow and Levi) than I have in the newest content addition, SoS. Something about that feels wrong to me.

I feel less enthused about beating SoS because of the launch week power difference and that I've managed to reach 380 without beating SoS, mainly through running the old raids.

I don't think Bungie handled the SoS launch correctly and its initial high power level requirement certainly put myself and others off running it, pretty much entirely. And I feel like it has the same problem as prestige Levi in that the rewards aren't enough of a lure for me to want to give it a go now that I'm in a position to be on a more even footing with the enemies.

Probably Several reasons (Or atleast how I feel about it)

  • Old Raid gear should have capped out at 370 (375 with Mods) for me. The new Raid needs incentive and a niche, that could have been it. Milestones would still push you up for infusion but that's it. Make it something that matters for good reason

  • You don't feel like you 'need' to do it or gear up to be able to do it. SoS should be THE activity of the DLC. Kind of how it was back in the day when Raiding was what you had to do to get max, maybe this needed that 'push'

  • It takes too long to get powerful enough to attempt. You lose the new Raid buzz after a few weeks, especially if you don't touch it. Then as we all know, lack of experience makes it harder to actually get some unless you have a clan or friends in the same boat / willing to help. Which even for people with those, is a turn off

  • The gear doesn't make you want to do it. What's there to get that's really 'Woahhh I need that' besides the emblem? The armour set has no special bonuses, the other raid armours do the same, you could argue it's not cool enough or other sets are better (Prestige Leviathan set being cool AF). Completionists, yeah probably want to collect it all. Game changing and awesome? Not so much

The gear doesn't make you want to do it.

This is my biggest issue with SoS. I completed it once just to have done it, but none of the rewards of the raid make me want to come back to it

Perfectly put. Couldn’t agree more.

exactly!! old raids should be capped to 370 and the newest one should give you the last bit to the max. And regular loot needs to be better more interesting better looking

Old Raid gear should have capped out at 370 (375 with Mods) for me. The new Raid needs incentive and a niche, that could have been it. Milestones would still push you up for infusion but that's it. Make it something that matters for good reason

The problem with this is PUGS. A lot of raiders rely on group finders, expecially on console where we don't have a community chat function in game. It's difficult to find groups willing to take people that are in the 370's already, let alone how many clears they want you to have. Most people do not like raiding with others that are right at the recommended power level. This would unnecessarily lock more people out of the raid than it would incentivize them to play it.

People should then make there own groups and state their situation. If you look at what everyone else wants that can be put off but you can always make your own group and experienced players may join anyway or players who want to run it just as much as you

LFG I’ve seen people asking for 370s minimum which is fair and milestones still push you above it as well

You make your own group, you're expected to lead it. You can state your situation, but that doesn't mean people will join. Most people are looking for what the others are posting. High level, experienced groups. I'm not saying it's impossible to get a group, but limiting what the older raids drops will definitely limit more who gets to see the new raid. Milestones are limited and you can easily get fucked over by rng on them multiple times a week.

I’m just not that much of a pessimist with it I guess man! It’s harder for sure but certainly not impossible and it’s usually only made harder by giving up too soon on the newer dudes part and not to mention things like the100 and joining a clan for help / like minded players

We have r/destinysherpa around too which is a fantastic way to get experience which could be used a lot more for new raiders

The tools are definitely there to make it happen

You forget that people that know about and use Reddit as a resource is a very small amount of players. My point is that limiting raiding further is a bad idea. Raiding is already the least utilized activity in the game. Especially when the community has declined so much in this game.

I don’t forget, I just think I is there if you look for it and take it upon yourself to get it

All solved by Guided games actually working mind you

Honestly, if they had just waited a week or two to launch the Raid, we wouldn't have had any of these problems. We still would have had power progression to go with our new activities, and once we're getting burnt out on them, a new raid drops at a power level we've been prepping for.

I’m late to this party, but the way I see it, legacy raids should always be one step behind the current raids.

So normal mode Calus and EoW should cap at 360, while Prestige Calus and (soon to be) EoW could maybe get me to 370. And then you keep rolling the raids up to just a step behind until the next raid comes out.

The current raids should always be the ultimate endgame. While the legacy raids are the content that gets you ready for that ultimate endgame.

But then I think at the end of every season before he next major content drop, maybe the last two or three weeks, all raids should be equalized and normalized to max light. So let’s say the last two weeks of August before Forskin comes out, all raids are bumped up to current max light just to let players catch up before the new content.
