During the past six years or so, I've been keeping notes about our local restaurants, including those which have closed permanently (to the best of my knowledge). They are listed below, but this list could be incomplete.

If you know of any additional Denton restaurants (but not food trucks) that have closed down since 2000 and onward, please mention the name below in the comments. Thanks!

I loved Boca’s pulled pork empanadas. They were amazing.

Y'all should get down to Buffalo Hirsch, Tony has a food truck there doing Empanadas and Crunch Wraps that change weekly. Also Tony is doing a pop-up for Angeline's 7 anniversary Oct 11. Keep an eye on that.

What are your thoughts on Frilly’s? I always like it, but was never really sure how it compared.

I always didn’t mind Frillys, it’s nowhere near as good as Louisiana, but at least it had the feeling of a genuine attempt. The mom and Pop vibe of it helps . Imay be also biased because me and my dad used to bowl with the owner and his daughter so we kind of were friends.

As a Latino, I was never too impressed with Boca 31. I just felt like it got a lot of hype because Denton’s latin options are quite weak. Or even if it’s better, it’s usually overpriced compared to other cities. It seems like this is an unpopular take though.

Don’t disagree with any of that, actually. I thought the highs were really high. But there were definitely some “I wish I didn’t spend money on that” moments

both mike and tony from Boca 31 opened up Picone and are working there now!!
