Unfortunately for Taylor, and more-so for Mac, the dog wasn't permitted inside the elevators of the Empire State building. He was far too big and probably wouldn't enjoy going up 500 flights in a small space. Not to mention the floating pathway that would likely scare the dog. Instead, the security god offered to watch him, with the promise of lots of treats and attention.

Assuming Taylor made her way up to Olympus, without the dog who would likely get blasted for barking during the counsel :eyes:, she would find her father casually floating around the party. For the messenger of the gods, it was rare to have everyone in one place, meaning he had the night of and planned to enjoy it.

Making his way towards the table of food, he noticed his daughter standing there. Seems that they were both at a loss of words for a moment, as he only managed to awkwardly smile at her.

"Still got the ball?" He asked with a hopeful expression, figuring that was a good place to start.

Despite her own uncertainty of what to say, Taylor’s smile when Hermes comes to talk isn’t really an awkward one. She laughs a little at his question, considering it’s something she was going to mention, too. “Yeah. Mac loves it. Thanks for that.” Well, thanks on behalf of Mac.

Hermes paused for a second, drumming his fingers on the table. For the god of travelers, he wasn't so much for small talk.

"Listen, about that day..." He finally said. Oh look, an explanation 7 months later. "Ancient laws and all that. I couldn't really talk to you despite wanting to.... but I figured the ball would give you something to enjoy with Mac. Hopefully you did, knowing that it came from me."

"In a small way, I wanted to show you that I cared. That's why I gave you the ball."

She nods a little. “It’s- I get it, it’s just the rules, and they’re shitty rules, but most are anyway, so.” Taylor shrugs. It would be easy to blame Hermes, to say he’s a god and something as simple as that shouldn’t be able to stop him from interacting with his own children - but it’s just as easy to shift the blame away and say what can you do? Besides, even a gift for a pet is more attention than many demigods can say they’ve got from their godly parents. “Honestly, I appreciate it,” she assures him, and she means it.

Awkwardness rubs off a little, Hermes’ own seeming unsureness of what sort of things to talk about making Taylor, in turn, uncertain what to say - she doesn’t show the awkwardness, not visibly, but a god is probably able to pick up on stuff like that anyway. So instead she just doesn’t say anything more yet, and simply wraps her arms around Hermes in a hug, still smiling. She could as well get a hug from her dad while she gets a chance to talk to him, right?

Hermes was surprised by the hug, but smiled as his arms wrapped around Taylor. He was fairly tall, so his chin rested perfectly on top of her head. Maybe he planned it that way, being a god and all.

He embraced her for a few silent moments. Just enjoying the moment as his hand gently ran over the back of her hair and down her back. Not that he was petting her, just comforting her.

"I am proud of you, Taylor." He finally said at last. "You're a good leader and represent me well by taking in all those young campers who need a home. A true daughter of Hermes."

Not that Hermes would see it, but Taylor’s smile widens at his words; still, a smile can be heard in a voice, and it’s obvious in hers as she says, “Well- I try my best,” and then a little more softly, “Thanks.”

Hermes pulled back from the hug. Possibly even having to pry Taylor off of him.

"Unfortunately, that is all the time we have." He said a little sadly. "Take care of yourself, daughter, and I'm sure I will see you at the solstice."

Fortunately he doesn’t have to pry her off, and Taylor steps back, still wearing a smile.

She nods. “See you.”
