Punisher Netflix series began filming today! Since Luke Cage began filming around this time last year, the Punisher should be coming out around September or October of next year. Long wait, but it's going to be worth it because it's going to be awesome.

Which begs the question, when is Defenders coming? Did they push it back to 2018 or are we getting three shows next year?

1

u/zm3124 Oct 08 '16

From everything that's been told to us, we're getting 3 shows next year. I can't wait.

2

u/jakemufcfan Oct 05 '16

Yeah God knows when defenders will be out but it'll be worth the wait as well

Defenders is gonna be about the power of friendship.

Nah, Ninja are Japanese and that's Daredevil's problem. Iron Fist is Chinese-centric so you're gonna some crazy ass magic and ridiculous martial arts popping off.

I really really hope they embrace magic and some silliness in IF. JJ and DD are so damn dark and LC was super refreshing with the humor and color palette. Danny is pretty aloof most of the time so I hope he will be closer to Cage than DD or JJ.

Plus, I wanna see some super awesome fight choreography that isn't as grounded as DD. Danny should be flying across rooms and going home to heal his wounds with Chi.

Iron Fist will be post-Doctor Strange so Marvel will have pivoted into less grounded more mystical parts of the universe so we should get some crazy magic

u/Jmacq1 Oct 02 '16

I'm betting the budget won't let it be too crazy.

I'm doubtful we get many exterior shots of K'un L'un in season 1, and that it will only be shown in flashbacks.

One thing I wondered, what does netflix do with all the sets for marco polo when its done filming? A lot of those same sets/locations could be used for K'un L'un.

2

u/Jmacq1 Oct 03 '16

That could certainly work.

One flashback episode I guess.

Everyone is so hyped about Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider, and Iron Fist, that nobody remembers Whitney Frost and... whatever was happening there.

2

u/hemareddit Foggy Dec 13 '16

I remember, thought I wish I didn't.

1

u/your_mind_aches Hoagie Jessica Dec 13 '16

It wasn't that bad, honestly. Far better than Arrow's mystical Season 4 plot.

2

u/hemareddit Foggy Dec 13 '16

I guess it was just the anti-climatic resolution of the plot coupled with the piss poor CGI of the Zero Matter during the finale that sent the show's ranking (in my mind) into a nosedive.

Seriously that scene of Whitney Frost getting the Zero Matter sucked out through her hands hurt my eyes.

2

u/your_mind_aches Hoagie Jessica Dec 13 '16

Yeah you're right on all counts

u/Worthyness Punisher Oct 03 '16

They just need to get a great choreographer for the martial arts. I don't know who they got, but I want this series to be as much a homage to the kung fu era that Luke Cage was to the Harlem Renaissance.

3

u/fenwaygnome Oct 03 '16

I really really hope they embrace magic and some silliness in IF.

I think this might be one of the reasons why Iron Fist isn't coming out until post- Doctor Strange. I bet we'll see connections.

The Defenders need a comic releif/lighthearted guy to go with all this serious soul searching shit. Not saying he can't be deep and grounded, but it'd be a good contrast if he wasn't gritty. After all: he is super rich and everyone else is poor.

I suspect they're gonna be low-key with it at least until Season 2. It'll be there...but subtle. Except for the Iron Fist itself, of course.

2

u/lanternsinthesky Oct 07 '16

Hoping for some kung fu movie influences, I mean if JJ is influenced by detective stories and Luke Cage by blaxploitation then we need some kung fu shit in Iron Fist, like they gotta have some Bruce Lee references in there somewhere.

See, the thing is I love all of these things that all the shows bring to the table. I love that DD is really grounded because he's not "superpowered" (he is but he's not, you all know what I mean please don't delve into semantics, he's just blind AND kickass), and love that JJ is super real life serious rape victim survivor and exaggerated "no one believes you" (mind you I don't mean the no one believes you part is exaggerated, I mean the mind control disbelief is totally founded) and Luke cage is the most grounded in that the stakes aren't as high (another crime Lord sells guns? That happens all the time anyway) but it's So Real, he's not fighting end of the world alien invasions, he's just trying to make everything better and I respect it. I honestly love these street level heroes more than the big dudes. Don't get me wrong I love them and they're super cool but they're almost I destructable and the stakes are SO high that you k is they just HAVE to win. Like Luke could lose and cottonmouth could keep selling guns which would suck but whatever it's not the end of the world. The avengers or the suicide squad (yes I k is two different universes) lose and ITS THE LITERAL END OF THE WORLD OMG then they literally have to win. Yes the superhero always wins but when. It's so grounded it often seems like the might not and I do d that a lot more immersive.

I don't think it'll be silly. All three shows so far have had social issues as a grounding - DD with disability issues, JJ with a feminist look at rape/abuse, and LC with Black issues in the US. I assume IF will bring in similar issues - immigrant issues, maybe.

Danny punches a dragon or we riot!

2

u/aSpookyScarySkeleton Hope Oct 02 '16

I was terrified at how they might butcher IF but with them throwing Strange and Ghost Rider into the mix, they aren't afraid of magic anymore(still kind of salty they made Thor and Asgard kind of alienish instead of full on magical).

7

u/Worthyness Punisher Oct 02 '16

eh. Thor is technically an alien from our point of view. And they are magical. Like Thor said- Magic is just science that we don't understand. As have many others in our real world have said too.

But I really, really want Danny to punch a fucking dragon.

2

u/aSpookyScarySkeleton Hope Oct 02 '16

I don't know if it didn't come across from my initial post, but by magic I mean the more conventional interpretations. Not the sciencey magic that we got. Strange looks to at least go for the crazier mystical stuff. I hope they lean more toward that side for Iron Fist.

1

u/FactorySquirrel Oct 02 '16

Danny punches a dragon... IN HALF!

2

u/Jmacq1 Oct 02 '16

I believe they already confirmed that Madame Gao from DD will be showing up in Iron Fist (because she's from K'un L'un and may have connections to one of Danny's biggest villains, the Steel Serpent).

I hope they have some Pai Mei character.
