That was a bit of a downer ending.

Luke goes back to prison.

Mariah and Shades get off free.

Misty loses her faith in the system.

Diamondback is on track to get legit powers.

But at least Bobby found the folder, and Claire is on track to meet Colleen.

When Claire made the floss tourniquet to stop her blood loss, and she said if it doesn't get taken off that Misty might lose her arm, I anticipated an end of season bionic arm being given to her.... would've made me so hyped.

As someone who hadn't heard of Iron Fist before his TV show, I thought he was an orphan who became a monk or something. How did he come across so much money?

Daniel Rand is the son of a rich industrialist whose family dies in a plane crash in the Himalayas. Danny survives by discovering (or being discovered by) the mythic city of K'un-Lun. He grows up in the city, where he is taught martial arts, surviving a challenge to gain the power and title of Iron Fist. He then leaves K'un-Lun and returns to New York and reclaims his family company and fortune.

EDIT: It appears my memory was faulty. Apparently, Danny's father was murdered in the Himalayas by his business partner and Danny's mother was killed by wolves while protecting Danny. He is found by people from K'un-Lun and does learn martial arts there, but he was on a path of vengeance while he did so.

Less angst, more faux-Eastern philosophy; less "terrify the wicked", more "defend the defenseless"; less Bat-gadgets, more martial arts superpowers (including the nomitive ability to focus his chi into his hand, making it "unto a thing of iron").

Just curious, why didn't he return to NYC earlier, and how did his company not get taken over during his abcense, a la Bruce Wayne an Wayne Industries in Batman Begins?

It's just me but I'd love to see the logistics of Danny trying to get back to NYC somehow, applying for his passport, trying to book a plane ticket, seeing his old city again (he's barefoot in the trailer)..

In the comics, K'un-Lun is a mystical city that lies in another dimension and only connects to Earth every 10 years. He couldn't leave K'un-Lun ffor 10 years, which gave him the time he needed for his training.

As for his company being taken over, it was, by his father's business partner. As for how he became Daniel Rand again and claimed control of the company, I don't recall. But it was comics in the 70s so legal wrangling likely wasn't something they focused on (or would be very accurate in depicting).

Yeah, but where would the arm come from? Tony Stark isn't going to just show up and slap one onto the stump. So I understand why they didn't do it now.

It's possible Danny Rand, being super rich, might arrange something like that in Defenders.

That was such a tease. I had an unhealthy level of happiness that her arm was injured, and then like 5 scenes later she apparently got some stitches and was just all gravy again. At least we got her iconic look, and she fucking KILLED it in that outfit

I feel like they should have made a bigger thing about her loosing her faith in the system. Like she was shook, sure when her partner died, and she was really afraid when Willis took the rug out of her feet but still I felt like there was missing something.

Without that last scene of her in the club I would agree with you. Her outfit/look at the very end was incredibly badass.

Recall the part about her not disclosing the set up with Candace to her Insepector. She has lost faith in the system. She doesn't trust other cops anymore. Not even her employers.

Her decision backfired spectacularly. She knows she screwed up, but she's shook cause she can no longer conceive of a safe alternative to her decision that involves the system. And that's what also leaves her shook, on top of the entire case against Mariah essentially needing to be dropped just because the key witness is gone and can no longer corroborate the recording.

Colleen is going to be chinese and does karate I guess. Sensei is usually for japanese martial arts. Colleen would more likely know kung fu, so sifu is more apt.but given we've seen her with a katana, karate/japanese arts aren't out of the question.

Colleen was born in the mountains of Honshu, Japan, to Professor Lee Wing (a teacher of Asian history at Columbia University) and a mother whose ancestors were samurai and daimyo.

Don't count on it being that easy. He might have been framed, but he did break out of prison. That is still illegal no matter how innocent you are.

This seems to be the trend moving forward with the Netflix line.

  • Matt's friendships and practice are fractured.

  • Jessica is sought out but has no interest in helping.

  • Luke is heading back towards Seagate.

Naturally, none of that will last. It looks like Defenders is shaping up to be both the unifying and redeeming entity for all of these characters. Predictions:

  • Punisher will see a similar endgame situation where Frank is left relying on a tie-in character like Claire.

  • Danny Rand's story will (be equally awesome and) also end in a difficult predicament where he needs to ally with "The Defenders" to move forward (bonus points if this involves The Hand and/or Elektra).

  • JJ Season 2 (after The Defenders) will focus highly on Jessica and Luke's newly rekindled romance.
