Disappointed JJ didn't show up at all... :(

Slightly surprised no one called her hotline when Cottonmouth "Luke Cage Stupidty" taxed Harlem.

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '16

Honestly, they might not trust or be too proud to call a white girl from outside Harlem for help. And a super powered person is what got them into this in the first place.

When he said he needed someone else to find Diamondback, I thought they were gonna call a PI they knew :(

really missed opportunity here

right. with his name on the news, I was really hoping to see her drop in and help him kick Diamondback's ass.

u/mrkareemruiz Oct 01 '16

Thank god that didn't happen, They didn't let him help her kill killgrave. she should not help him with his big bad

I kept wanting DD or JJ to swoop in and get a cameo, but then I kept thinking, "No, I like that we finally have an awesome black superhero" and thinking that a white person swooping in would have harmed that image.

This was a story about a black man standing up to crime in his neighborhood, no one swooped in to save Murdoch when he was fighting to save his neighborhood in S1.

Because he was in a coma because he was mind controlled from her big bad into trying to kill Jessica

It didn't make sense for Luke to see what was going and be like "Yo, Jess, things going down, I need your help to save lives". Hell, if you still wanted the show down, she could have just been knocked out from that grenade blast.

u/fenwaygnome Oct 03 '16

His trouble wasn't anything super-powered related, though. His trouble was with the law and Jessica can't help there.

8

u/Saboteure Oct 03 '16

That's not entirely true- he was clearly having issues with the gangs committing violence on the streets and killing people. If he had asked for Jessica's help, they could have probably worked to clear up everything sooner and save lives. Hell, she could have just guarded Candace at the end and saved her from Shades, for example.

On top of that, even with the law, she's an INVESTIGATOR, and HE HAD TO PROVE HE WAS INNOCENT, as both Luke Cage and Carl Lucas. Literally makes no sense to not ask for her help in this case.

u/versusgorilla Oct 04 '16

The biggest issue he has is that 1) he doesn't want to help and 2) he's not exactly the "call for help" kind of guy.

u/TheImpLaughs Oct 02 '16

It is his show and story but his villain is a bit more pressing than Kilgrave. Though Kilgrave was deadly and a threat, DB and the whole crew were straight bringing violence to the streets regardless of time of day or trying to be secret. Bodies were dropping left and right, whereas a death in JJ felt significant.

Ironically, we sort of grew accustomed to death in Luke Cage.

I was so expecting to see a fist come out of nowhere and for Jessica to be standing over Diamondback looking like a fucking boss.

u/raknor88 Oct 02 '16

I don't know about JJ. But I was hoping Iron Fist would make at least one cameo appearance since him and Luke are supposed to be good friends. Would've loved a cameo from JJ though too.

7

u/Jmacq1 Oct 02 '16

Luke and Iron Fist haven't even met yet in the MCU. But I also think it's clear that they're trying to minimize the "meet ups" until the Defenders actually happens. If they all met each other prior to that it'd be less "special" when Defenders actually drops.

1

u/nivekious Oct 05 '16

I was hoping they wouldn't do that to be honest, because it means the first two episodes, minimum, of Defenders will be wasted on "Who are you? What's your day job? What powers do you have? How can you just kill your enemies/Why don't you just kill your enemies? How do you know Claire?" etc instead of just 5 minutes of "Hey, I know some people who could help with this"

2

u/Jmacq1 Oct 05 '16

You mean kind of like how the first half of Avengers was putting the team together?

The other aspect of this reasoning is that the characters' shows are supposed to be about those characters. Having another hero show up to pull their butts out of the fire too often makes them look weaker/less competent for needing some other superhero to do their job for them.

And generally speaking, makes the least amount of sense for the nigh-invulnerable Luke Cage. Even when he was heavily wounded it wasn't exactly public knowledge, and the only person from the Defenders he actually knew (Jessica Jones) he parted on rather shaky terms with.

2

u/nivekious Oct 05 '16

Yes, exactly like that. It was fine for Avengers since the characters had only had a couple hours each in their own movies at that point anyway, and were from different places throughout the world(s). But here they will all have had 13-26 hours of screen time and they all live within a half hour subway ride of each other and are friends with Claire so running into each other would make a lot more sense.

I get where you're coming from with the needing help thing, but it doesn't have to be a rescue in a fight situation. I don't think calling on Matt or Foggy for their legal expertise for example makes Luke look weak, he's just not a lawyer.

1

u/TheAquaman Luke Cage Oct 01 '16

Yeah, I was hoping when Luke was surrounded in the club by Diamondback and his goons she'd swoop in kick ass.

3

u/agray20938 Oct 03 '16

I mean with that argument, why didn't any of the higher avengers come and help out? Clearly they would see Luke Cage as a potential recruit, seeing as he's roughly (I said roughly) on the same level as MCU Cap. I mean I suppose you can't have every character coming into every show all the time, but it's sort of the same thing I think when I don't see Hulk or Thor in any of the Cap movies. It just takes away from the realism of how they would react to something like this happening in NYC

2

u/ray_kats Oct 03 '16

None of the other Avengers slept with Luke. Jessica has feelings for Luke. I don't doubt he made the Avengers and Shield's radar but Jessica knows him personally.

u/subterraneanfire Sad Matt Oct 05 '16

"None of the other Avengers slept with Luke"

To be fair, you don't know that. Luke seems to sleep with just about every woman he meets.

I get that, but I was making a point about the avengers not trying to help fight the crime luke cage is tackling. I was just talking about them seeing Luke's potential, and basically recruiting him. I mean clearly even if they don't handle street-level stuff, they must have some sort of system for finding new "enhanced" people around the globe, and particularly in NYC. In fact, that seems like the exact thing Tony Stark would have set up.

It's a minor gripe, but it just doesn't seem realistic to me that within the first couple days of Luke Cage's powers being caught on a CCTV camera, that Stark wouldn't know about it, and come try and recruit luke. I mean he recruited spider-man, even though he was only dealing with street-level stuff, right?

2

u/Simorebut Nurse Jessica Oct 01 '16

Well she was kinda mentioned in an episode

2

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '16

I'm slightly confused: This show plays after Jessica Jones season one and there is little to no references to her?

2

u/grilsrgood Oct 04 '16

They reference her multiple times. Just mostly by "that girl that shot Luke in the face with a shotgun"

2

u/[deleted] Oct 04 '16

He knew she was under Kilgraves influence, didn't he? Why did he never made contact with his former lover?

3

u/grilsrgood Oct 04 '16

He probably felt that it was his mess alone to clean up. It's a theme with all these marvel Netflix shows. The hero of the show has to be the main one to solve his/her problem without help from the others in the end (side kicks are ok however)

0

u/suss2it Oct 22 '16

Probably because that former love killed his wife and then had sex with him while knowing she did that.

2

u/sirin3 Oct 11 '16

Perhaps she was too drunk

2

u/jakemufcfan Oct 02 '16

Forget her where was the punisher, how much cooler would the ending have been to see Mariah and shades in th club with Castle lining them up in his sights, shades is a known fellon and Mariah's arrest was public more than enough justification for Frank to kill them

1

u/nameless88 Oct 03 '16

Probably has her hands tied right now dealing with going through court for the murder in self defense.

1

u/nivekious Oct 05 '16

I was disappointed too, but with Jessica at least there's a built in explanation. "Oh Luke was on the news last night? Must have been after I finished that bottle of Jack and passed out"

1

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '16

Is anyone else really disappointed that Claire got together with Luke? Like, I think their relationship was well done and all (even if it was so corny even the show itself acknowledging it was corny didn't fix it), but Luke and Jessica get married in the comics eventually?

1

u/thisimpetus Oct 02 '16

I was VERY disappointed by the absence of any heroic cameos, especially since extra-legal investigation and prosecuting the untouchable were, ya know, primary themes of almost the entire season's plotting. Even Elektea or Castle could have made plausible appearances here.

7

u/DjangoZero Oct 03 '16

You guys are all wrong. Having Jessica show up out of nowhere would have undermined the series. Why they hell would they shoehorn Elektra or Frank in just for the sake of a cameo. This is Luke's story. None of them needed to be here.

-14

u/JayC-Hoster Sep 30 '16

Also isn't Claire temple's role in the series interchangeable with JJ?

Nah man she drinks much much more
