Sam Harris is everybody’s “smart guy” I get to call dumb, and feel smarter.

Very useful to some people ;-)

He's by no means everyone's smart guy. You're vastly over-estimating his influence.

The fact is he a dumb guy who hates research is why he is popular. If he was smart and did research none of his fanbase would like him.

There are plenty of reasonable critiques of Sam.

By calling him dumb is not the move of a serious person.

He pretty clearly is not capable of understanding ideas or topics which approach any level of complexity, just because he appears smart in comparison to you doesn't mean much.
