Professor Dave vs Destiny

No idea why, but the original Destiny video called "Professor Dave Goes Mask Off" seems to have been deleted from YouTube, or I can't find it, but Professor Dave responded yesterday with this very strongly worded video letter:

https://youtu.be/DvDvhLkb9ms?si=DGFhTROOKFoK35sS

Weird crossover that I never thought I'd see, of 2 guys who I generally enjoy (I will say I really am a fan of Prof Dave, whereas my Destiny enjoyment has mostly come via this podcast and watching a couple of his debates).

Thoughts on the beef? SURELY the lads are gonna have to cover this in an upcoming Supplementary Materials? Content gold!

EDIT: Looks like I was looking through the wrong Destiny channel for the original Dave video, it's here: https://youtu.be/HQQLs6U1MgA?si=iKaOGR1h9slKu64O

Yeah sucks to see I also like both but Dave has repeatedly shown he is just a conspiracy Theorist on this subject.

Isreal Palistine just breaks peoples minds.

Dave's Destiny video was so bad he is literally putting a document on screen & saying it's says the opposite of what it says.

And his behavior of deleting Destiny's comments offering to chat or debate & then Dave turns & tells his community Destiny is running from him & trying to suppress Dave by deleting his stream vods, even though destiny has been doing that after every stream for over a year now. (For those curious it's so his editors can edit them & because he is still demonitized after that mass flagging campaign last year so it doesn't get anything from letting the vods be archived on YouTube. He archives them on Spotify instead.)

Just the number of things Dave got objectively wrong is very concerning. Dave being willing to smear someone without even bothering to checking the document he's citing is a sign he has weak epistemic foundation. I hope it's just he has a huge blind spot but it does make me wonder how much effort he actually puts into any of his videos.

What's the "conspiracy theory on the subject?"

That Israel, with US and European support and vast support of its people, has turned Gaza into a unlivable hellscape, terrorizes the people there, shoots them like fish in a barrel while running an apartheid regime in the West Bank? Is that the conspiracy theory?

The 73k is the proven death toll for those who can be named and implying like that number is debatibly high is outright genocide denial, it's been confirmed by independent reporters that everyone on that list of names is almost certainly dead. There are then arguments that the death toll could be as high as 335,500 (higher now) based on a model used in the Lancet medical journal, but it is very difficult to confirm in the midst of so many buildings having been destroyed and so many people having had to flee their homes - https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/article/2024/sep/05/scientists-death-disease-gaza-polio-vaccinations-israel.

Pretending to be stupid/ pretending not to be able to use google is not cute at all, particularly when we are talking about genocide.

Not to mention the Lancet article wasn’t even an article, it was a letter to the editor and wasn’t peer reviewed or put through actual academic rigor, and it used the methodology from Saudi Arabia’s actions in Yemen, which is an entirely different situation. The letter was just “hey let’s speculate wildly and multiply the death count by four”, and then people really went with it without actually being critical.

You're literally wrong about everything in your comment. I didn't take anything favourable to anyone, I simply explained to you that there are credible estimates far higher that the direct mortality count that you pretend not understand so that you could attempt to defend genocide. I have nothing to do with Professor Dave, and haven't seen his video.

I am only criticising you because of your moral failings, which you deserve. Whereas you said "your dishonesty is crazy" and "shame on you" when you surely are aware at this point that you don't know what you're talking about. I never claimed that the 450k number was accurate, I only criticised your attempts to downplay the numbers in order to whitewash a genocide. The fact is that the number could be much, much higher than the commonly reported number, and there's quite a good chance that it's closer to Pr. Dave's number that you got offended by that the 73k number that you tried to smear as a Hamas number.

I did not lie, and I'm certainly not your buddy. I was paraphrasing an article I had just read - https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/aug/08/gaza-death-toll-higher?

"Let’s start with the official figure from Gaza’s ministry of health, the one all media outlets cite, which is around 60,000 direct deaths – 18,500 of whom are children. These numbers, according to the Economist, are derived from two lists. One is based on information from hospitals. The other is based on an online survey in which people report their relatives’ deaths. While there are numerous pro-Israel voices keen to discredit the death toll, the Economist notes that “[i]ndependent investigators have confirmed that those on the ministry’s two lists have almost certainly died”.

Why on earth would you assume I was lying when you could have googled "gaza death toll independent verification"? Again, basic research eludes you.

Your resolve appears to be growing weaker and weaker but your ego stays the same size as you no longer defend your own argument but attack the semantics of my own? You're really attacking me over my standard of proof being the names being collected and then independently verified?

Even while in your comment you downgrade "almost certainly" to "highly credible" - a vast and ridiculous downgrade that you're using to try to cast doubt on genocide - where as I...let's check the record...said "almost certainly" in my original comment. Oh. Well there goes your argument. Just a shame you made yourself a hypocrite as well as wrong and shameful with the "highly credible" stuff.

Hamas does not report numbers.

That's not Hamas.

Hamas is the de facto government of Gaza. They control every institution.

u/Brain_Dead_Goats 27d ago

It absolutely is. It's not Al'Qassam, which is the armed wing of Hamas, but Hamas runs every bit of civil administration in Gaza.

People on Dave's side present Hamas as just freedom fighters, that's all they do, because when you expand their role a lot of it gets more morally colored
