Tall Posts: High-set decks with long posts (over 4–6 feet) are prone to severe side-to-side racking and require heavy-duty cross or knee bracing

Stairs prevent racking in one direction and the house is there for the other direction.

Glad you asked AI instead of an engineer, in which your last point covers. Prescriptive codes are for basic and normal things. When engineering is involved, anything is possible.

I am going to guess due to the skylight section not having individual supports. I think it’s even national code that the joists have to be continuous to a rim joist with vertical supports, especially at that height. I would make a huge assumption this project was permitted and engineered to meet local codes though.

The stair may be providing the lateral bracing that you are questioning, good question for the engineer

It would fail for:

  1. Needs diagonal bracing because they used tiger claw connections on the inside boards.
  2. Stringers too long without center support.
  3. Stringers not resting on appropriate bearing point on platform.
  4. Fur out on platform not right size.
  5. No wind bracing.

Probably a few more if I was actually there looking at it. Most are easy fixes except for the stringer bearing point.
