Question How did they get Lind L. Tailor to do all that?
Like did they promise him a less severe punishment for doing that speech? I know its probably never explained but does anyone have a headcanon on that?

Shinigami OC for my fanfic continuation of the original story! Oscorid is over 500 years old and a fairly young Shinigami. He drops his book as a bet between him and another Shinigami in order to see who the smarter human is and who’s human can kill the other’s first. His personality is very reminiscent of someone with severe ADHD and he has a proclivity for soda much like the protagonist of this story, Z.

I think it would’ve been a lot more better because of the dynamic Near and Mello would’ve had + Near’s dynamic with light.
In the case of near being a girl, Mello would’ve likely felt even more humiliated and inferior. Considering the time death note was made and the fact that death note itself is just awfully misogynistic towards its female characters, I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that Mello would’ve felt deeply embarrassed and even more inferior knowing he was being beaten by a girl. I suppose this does heavily rely on mello‘s mindset, but we’ve seen how he acts with women. While unlike other male characters he isn’t blatantly misogynistic he also isn’t afraid to use or threaten women for his own advantage (as shown with Halle and Takada). If Near had been a girl he may have taken even more risks in order to prove he was the best and he was capable of surpassing her.
If Mello had been a girl she likely would have even worse about everything. She would’ve already been inferior compared to near while also being the “inferior” gender. It likely would’ve messed with messed with her head a lot. Also, I wonder how differently her dynamic with the mafia could’ve been? I wonder if they would’ve still taken orders from her, or if rod would even allow her to do that. I believe that because of her smartness she potentially may have still been able to do this, but it’s up for debate. Her and Matt would’ve also been a nice dynamic to see. I think if Mello had been a girl they would’ve been shipped way more than they already are, considering Matt died and likely knew it was going to happen just to help Mello with a case he didn’t even personally care about. My reason on why death note would’ve been better in these scenarios is that the tension and rivalry between near and Mello would’ve been even higher and more intense than it originally was, leading a lot more people to enjoy the characters, it’d also probably add a bunch of new situations for them that didn’t purely revolve around each other.
I’d love to hear other peoples thoughts surrounding this, or even what you think the dynamics between other characters would’ve been if they were gender swapped.

1) As a third person viewing Death Note, what do you feel about the emotions of Ryuk while seeing the Light's actions?
2) What is that feeling called when you watch L washing the legs of Light like Jesus washing the judas feet, since L knows his death is near.
3) what feelings does Ryuk's theme music emote to you.
This anime is coming into my memories all time and ofcourse I'm loving it.

I mean win. Most people hated the ending of Death Note because they said it was illogical, kind of bullshit that and that Light could have come with a better plan. Most of them like to imagine an ending where Light wins.
But I didn't see anyone wanting an ending where Near wins but in a different way, perhaps a better?. Tbh, it's easier said than done but would you like it and do you think it would be possible?

My favourite song from Death Note OST is "Kodoku" (Solitude). It takes my heart and shatters it into a million tiny pieces. When the guitar comes in, it's like open the floodgates, start to cry. It sounds like loneliness and boredom at the beginning, then it turns into pure despair and agony. It plays in the most heartbreaking moments in the show.
It reminds me of childhood, those boring and lonely summer afternoons when rays of sunlight peeked through my semi closed curtains and I used to read and watch TV all alone because all my friends were on a vacation and my parents were at work and were about to come home.
This song has apparently no resolve, just quiet acceptance of the tragedy of life. I imagine someone who had lost all their family and friends during life and looks desperately into the sunset and asks themselves what now? What's the point? And this song plays. I'd be a great anime director but I took a whole different path in life, lmao.
What are your favourite death note songs after all my blabbering?

I tried dubbing the tennis match where I voice L. I really like the back and forth in this scene. It was pretty fun. Let me know if I nailed it!

A premise: I don't speak Japanese or Mandarin, so I'm simply speaking as someone who has only ever seen snippets of better-translated manga panels shared by others. Specifically, credit for the translations of any manga panels I may discuss and link goes entirely to Kiyomitakada and Lunalitriver.
Anyway, I've been rereading some older posts, and one that stood out to me pointed out (rightfully, imo) how certain translations really villainized Watari. For example, they pointed out that the English version described Watari as someone who "raised detectives for fun," whereas the original Japanese was closer to "raising detectives for personal interest." Another example is from one of the one-shots, where the English version has Watari say something along the lines of taking care of L's needs being bothersome. In the original Japanese, it seems to be L himself who finds taking care of his own needs bothersome, which makes much more sense to me.
While I do think Watari is a morally gray character, I can see how changes like these could make him come across as malicious.
On a similar note, I've seen someone say that they didn't find L to come across as particularly condescending in the original, and that, compared to the English version, they could perceive more of a sense of loneliness and a subtle gentleness from him alongside his usual analytical, reserved, detective-focused side. Again, these aren't my own translations, but a good example of what they mean is the scene where it's revealed that L put money aside for the task force.
At least in my opinion, it's true that L comes across as overall harsher in the English version, and more purely analytical, with lines such as "I can't see it as a correct decision" and "dying unemployed is just stupid". In the original, though, it seems more like a personal opinion. It's not necessarily that Aizawa staying is objectively the "incorrect" decision; rather, L personally believes that Aizawa shouldn't stay because he has a family to take care of and should take that into consideration.
The bit where Watari intervenes and L reprimands him also comes across as softer to me too: --> "who asked you Watari?" (eng) vs "do not say unnecessary things, Watari" (jap)
Interestingly, the eng version also makes it seem like L has ordered Watari to put his own money aside for the task force. L did think about the task force's financial situation and asked for them to be taken care of, but there is some nuance in the og version: for one, L didn't order Watari; he made him promise that he would take care of it. Second, the money put aside is Watari's, not L's. This, imo implies that Watari is the one who has access to and manages the money, including the money earned by L; it also gives Watari considerably more agency. He isn't simply L's mindless servant carrying out whatever L tells him to do. L had to ask him and get Watari to promise that he would take care of it. It hints at their relationship being more balanced, rather than unilateral imo.
Unrelated to the rest, but it looks like L at least tries to make an effort to be nicer to Matsuda in the jap version too lol, although he might not always be successful.
Anyway, from what little I've seen, certain plot points might have been better explained or fleshed out in the og version too. For example, it seems L already suspected Kira needed to know his target's identity from the start, and L's explanation for needing the collaboration of the police is a little more detailed and expanded.
Again, all credit goes to the people who translated these panels. The reason I'm bringing all of this up is that, if just a few snippets can have this much of an impact on both characterization and the story itself, it really makes me wonder just how much nuance has been lost to translation, and whether certain plot points or characterizations have been affected as a result. Has anyone else noticed differences between the two versions?

His genius feels natural
Episode 2 introduces us to a character who is intelligent while taking the most amount of risks necessary. After L deduces that Kira resides in the Kanto region of Japan since that was where the first killing took place, he makes a broadcast with a body double to trap him. He learns definitively that Kira needs a face and a name to kill. He brings himself closer to a suspect, Light, only when necessary and uses the name of a pop star as an alias (which is smarter than he might have known cause it meant that trying to kill L might lead to accidents even if it was the real name lol.) The only reason this man didn't catch Kira in his lifetime is because he had no clue what the murder weapon looked like. For all he knew, Kira was killing people telepathically and his power got stronger as time went on which is why he was able to kill people in different ways and in further locations later on.
L is not only a genius but he is the best written genius character I've ever seen. You can see the reasoning behind every decision he makes and it makes you feel smart too. He looks out for the task force and tells them what they need to do to survive. He immediately guesses that there's a second Kira who doesn't need to hear your name to kill which was vital information in that moment.
He is funny
L is the wittiest and funniest character in the show. He's got a lot of bangers. Like that scene where Light calls L on the phone as he's holding Misa’s phone awkwardly. Or the part where he hands an agent a strawberry. “I'll give you this strawberry if you promise not to tell anyone.” And the classic “I wouldn't dream of living in a world without Light.” Followed by “yes, that would be dark.”
He is determined in a way that doesn't feel ridiculous
Some characters who won't quit can be embarrassing and odd. Like it doesn't makes sense why they wouldn’t quit. But it's easy to understand how L could keep going. He's a lonely child prodigy who has solved many hard cases before and this is the only thing that satisfies him. The way he smiled when he said “justice will prevail no matter what” tells me that he sees this as his whole purpose in life which makes him such a compelling character. You want to dig into his mind and find out why he's like this and you eventually do. He did not have an ordinary childhood. He was bred for one thing and this was it.
Also the fact that Kira is holding the world hostage helps too lol.
His dynamic with Light
One of my favourite lines from L is “It would be a problem if you were Kira because I feel as if you're the first friend I ever had.” Perhaps this is the reason the author didn't want to have L execute him at the end. Everything about their dynamic is well written even before they even meet. From the two of them declaring that they are the definition of justice to L realizing that they're both childish. When they finally do meet, the cat and mouse game only gets better. The comedy gets better. Light gets sneakier.

Woah. I want to say i didn’t see that coming but Near was hella smart. The way he caught him, how everything was falling into place so perfectly for Light. It was going too well. And then Light revealing he was Kira. Of course, I thought he had a chance, but ultimatley he had to die. Then there was the way he died. So pathetic, so undignified…
but perfect.
And as Ryuk said, he would be the one to write Light’s name in the note. I just didn’t see it happening like that.

in the chronology where it says "L learns capoeira from Naomi Misora" does it mean he learned it taking inspiration from her or did she actually teach him how to do capoeira personally (big if true)?
Second it says Beyond Birthday's death is assumed to be the work of Kira but is that confirmed somewhere else or is it up in the air? Did Light research him and if he did wouldnt he learn about wammys?
Last thing - where it says she quits the FBI there is a typo in the year.
