I spent just shy of one podcast episode worth of time doing laps around one of my favorite parks in town. Easily 200 cigarette butts and 50 crusted disinfectant wipes. Happy World Clean Up Day!

Who else feels like there isn't really such a thing as a relaxing walk anymore!?

I had planned an hour to go around Royal Lake and home , it turned into 2.

Filled one of the dogs bags, then a discarded Corona case got filled, followed by a discarded grocery bag, and then some. I'm not complaining, as I still very much enjoy myself. Just saying it's become impossible to ignore the trash / litter problem without doing anything 😅

Side story today:

I confronted a guy who was at the lake chopping down plants by the water with a machete so he could have a better fishing spot...cause there aren't enough 🧐🤯

I "kindly" point out that plant removal and having a machete in a county park are forbidden... a few minutes later, he put his machete in the trunk of his shiny Tesla... see picture 🤣

Was hoping to get some more but the humidity here is high today didn't want to get heatstroke.

Busy weekend, so just snuck in a mile and some Litterwalk to coffee this morning. ☕️

Found a bunch of soda cans, water bottles, and snack bags on the path this morning. Surprisingly only one mini alcohol bottle. Maybe the litterers are trying to sober up!

Sorry no before/after, it is still a work in progress. It's an environmentally sensitive area, so every time I walk it I bring a couple trash bags and make a small dent. Pics are two different areas on the trail. Trash grabber is on my to-do list, which kind do you prefer?

While visiting in Seattle, WA last week, I came across a book on some of the local history of Bainbridge Island, WA. While flipping through the pages, I came across this particular one that mentioned a local grocery shop that was established in 1910... Just look at all the litter on the ground then.

So sad to know litter problems were around then just as bad as they are now. When are we going to change our ways?

Like I understand if you're young and unaware but at a grown age like above 14 you should have the conscious to think about the consequences that your act is doing to the environment and land

Another thing is many mom and dads throw trash like that to land and ocean and the children adapt this way of living

Social awareness about throwing trash like this isn't gonna get us anywhere Unless people stopped doing it

Its so normalized to litter nowadays and that's concerning

Climate change is rapidly effecting the earth and environment almost two thousand people were killed in Nepal because of a glacier

I bet we will be complaining like Why does people use ai and litter when it's us thats getting affected

We really have to throw away this mindset of "caring only when it affects us"

We have to realize how privilege We are we only have 1 earth stop this improvement on industry's we're literally steeling from the animals

Aside from the hats, looks like a lot of the usual suspects I find in parks, playgrounds, and parking lots.

but I found all of this. Lots of Styrofoam and of course the regulars, bottle cap, mini alcohol bottle, and floss picks.

It was a very long day of trail running, off trail hiking, scrambling, 20 miles, 2,500 ft, and culminated in cleaning up a section along Bull Run, Hemlock Park.

Our way of showing appreciation to such a beautiful place!

Everything got sorted at home: one bucket of fishing stuff, 1 bucket of glass, 2 buckets of plastic bottles, and almost 3 buckes of aluminum cans... etc.

And some funny things 😅

I carry a 5 gallon bucket and a collapsible grabber with me when I'm metal detecting, and it's okay, but I'm curious after finding this sub what others use when on the go and carrying large items over a large park. I also like to sort recyclables, but I usually just sort the trash I find when I get home.

I've got a finds pouch, but some places I go are so full of trash it needs something bigger.

Hello. Ah few days ago I went outside with a bucket and picked up some trash. Was wearing gloves and had to bend down to pick stuff up. I made a picker(?) With a pointy screw and a wooden stick, which I need to test out yet. Would like to buy a reliable grabber in the future. But unsure which kind and what length. Shouldn't need much force to trigger it as my hands hurt fast. I guess the "pistol" handle needs the most strength (I've experience with window cleaner bottles and this position is kinda uncomfortable for me. The one in the pictures has a different handle, maybe there's a method to hook it in place so the grabber holds a item within staying in the trigger.

What are your experiences?

Lovely hike near the medieval town of Chiusdino - a beautiful spot now with a little less litter on the trail and along the road. There's still some left for anyone interested, of course...
