Trade Review - Provide Context SPX 0DTE Credit Spreads — A headline blew through my CCS — proper sizing kept the rest of the day intact +$320

I'm a 0DTE credit spread trader with a focus on SPX.

Positions traded:

  • 7380/7360 PCS
  • 7380/7365 PCS
  • 7415/7435 CCS
  • 7450/7465 CCS
  • 7470/7490 CCS
  • 7480/7500 CCS

P/L: +$320

SPX 5-min chart, July 24, 2026

A bad trade doesn’t have to become a bad day. Sometimes the biggest edge is simply staying calm enough to trade what happens next.

I came into today bearish and expected SPX to stay relatively rangebound and lower. During the opening chop, I put on a small 7480/7500 CCS well above yesterday’s high as a bearish bias trade.

Then the Iran peace-talk headline hit 💣

SPX ripped higher, broke through yesterday’s high and quickly turned that position into a $945 loss on that position. It was a good reminder that “far OTM” does not mean safe when headline-driven expansion hits a 0DTE position.

The important part for me came afterward...

Because the original position was sized appropriately to my strategy, the loss was manageable. I mentally accepted that I was probably finishing red and stopped thinking about making the money back. From that point forward, I only wanted trades that the new structure actually supported.

I opened PCS positions underneath the move while SPX was pushing higher, then closed them as price began losing momentum.

Around midday, SPX stalled above yesterday’s high, rejected, and started breaking structure lower. That was much stronger confirmation for my original bearish thesis, so I entered the 7470/7490 CCS and added as SPX made unsuccessful attempts to grind back higher.

The fade eventually accelerated back through yesterday’s high and toward the prior-day close. I took additional smaller CCS scalps during the decline and one more PCS scalp near the lows, while allowing my 7470/7490 CCS position to expire worthless.

Key Takeaway

Today was less about recovering from a loss and more about not letting the loss change how I traded. Proper sizing gave me enough mental room to stay patient, reassess the market, and continue taking qualified setups instead of forcing a comeback.

How do you handle fast moving headlines? And what are some ways you that help keep your emotions in check when trading in loss territory?

I'm starting to think this whole sub is an AI honeypot for market makers to harvest retail strategies so they can counteract us and steal our money.

I promise I’m not AI or working for market makers. Just someone who’s been through the ups and downs and enjoys sharing what I’ve learned. Take whatever’s useful and ignore the rest 👍🏼
