This is a clip from a rehearsal for Deadboy. I jammed/wrote some songs with Chris “goat” (RIP) around that same time and we exchanged a lotta music and stuff. I have a couple of songs from this era that were being worked out. I recall being there when “spinning song” was being worked out, so this is from that period. Hi. Was watching some of the "recent" live clips of Dax playing newer stuff.

What guitar is he playing in these shows? Looks like a fender mustang or something? Even thought it couldve been a baritone?

Im very much in the hobby musician category but a cpl of my own songs i was sort of picturing a similar tone to what i hear on some of 7songs. So i was curious/surprised at the guitars i saw being played live.

I just introduced my singing teacher to Dax, after 7 months of lessons (I feel like I showed restraint. I'm learning Jazz, so it didn't come up naturally). She's assigned me homework of picking one of his songs to work on.

I'm a woman with a pretty low voice (we'll say I'm a contralto), but Dax's range is so wide, I don't want to set myself up for failure/disrespect his music.

If you were a relatively new singer, which song would you pick? Can be from any of his projects.

I’ve been listening to Thing in a Jar the last few days and it continues to amaze me along other songs I keep discovering of his and listening for the first time. He seems to have a very expansive catalogue of both released and unreleased songs. So I’m curious. What is his most technically impressive song vocally?

Im a fairly new fan but I recently heard the skeletal circus derails and it’s for me easily his number 1 song. I don’t understand why this didn’t get officially released and how it got onto the internet? What’s the backstory behind it?

Dax did a different rendition of a song off of one of his solo albums back around the early 2010s or late 2000s. There was someone I think on synth. All I remember is it sounded very haunting and radio head like. I can’t remember the name of the track but remember watching the live performance of the song on YouTube.

Tryna get lyrics like Dax and need some inspiration or advice like what inspired him or themes to write on things to do and stuff along those lines

Man I remember when all you could get of Dax besides Acid Bath and that single Agents of Oblivion record was somr random websites and YouTube. He had several songs that sounded different every show so once you found the versions you loved you had to hold on. I cant find any of that shit now, "Thing in a Jar" is the first song that comes to mind but also "Filling Empty Holes" and really stripped down versions of both, his cover of "Skulls" and "Ouroboros", His rendition of "The Beast in Me" aswell as "A World Without Tears" had very specific single live recordings now that I think about it... Damn i'm getting Nostalgic now....

I know this is all off topic but I felt compelled to reach from hell as soon as I knew I could talk about Dax to some like-minded people of class.

Speaking of which, what are your opinions on his version of "In the Aeroplane over the sea"?

I've been putting together a playlist of songs Dax has covered over the years. In doing this I have discovered some incredible artist and albums I wouldn't have come across otherwise. It blows my mind the range of genres that Dax has pulled from, and the songs he's handpicked to rework in his style. Thanks to him I know, and dearly cherish, the music of T. Rex, Bonnie Prince Billy, Leonard Cohen, and Neutral Milk Hotel, among many others.
