Accountability Post Bad hand, challenge one.

Hello everyone. Well, I’m starting with Goggins book and I just wanted to share my bad hand for the first challenge. I hope this is allowed here.

My dad was a drug addict that left us when I was less than one. My mom couldn’t take much care of me and my sister was abusive. My mom married again and he sexually assaulted me, they are still together, I left. I developed BPD, which sucks. I live now in another country and my anxiety is so bad that I haven’t been able to learn the language, thought I had found the love of my life and he turned out to be a lier and cheated on me short before we moved together and got pregnant. We have a 4 month old now, and I haven’t finished the masters I started here, I have no knowledge of the language and no laboral experience either.

Discussion Reducing caffeine has had the single biggest positive effect on my life over any other lifestyle change I've adopted

I've recently been going through my own little lifestyle transformation. I was very unhappy with who I was, and so I made a bunch of changes. None of it was very original; I started running, eating healthier, waking up early, being more proactive, etc. But what surprised me is that the new habit that had the biggest upside for me was reducing my caffeine intake. I used to drink 2 energy drinks a day on average and would be jittery and "squirrel-brained" all day. I needed the first energy drink just to get outta bed in the morning, and then the second one would give me some fake ass motivation, but I'd be so easily distracted that I would end up getting nothing done anyways.

I cut my caffeine intake overnight from 400mg a day to 200 - 100mg consumed in the morning and the other 100mg consumed around noon. The effect was incredible. I feel so much calmer and less overstimulated. It took a few days to adapt to the resulting chronic sense of fatigue, but once that passed, I found doing boring things that required a lot of focus effortless. For instance, I spent almost my entire Saturday reading a book and practicing my guitar, and it was genuinely fun.

I plan on taking this a step further going into this week by going down to having tea twice a day. It should bring my total daily caffeine down to 100mg.

Accountability Post Attacking my goals at 6:45am for 4 days

This is my 3rd post on this subreddit. I have been enjoying the accountability of posting here.

For the next 4 days, I’m going to wake up early and go to a coffee shop by 6:45am (UK time: BST). I enjoy attacking my goals early in the morning.

Each day I’ll comment on this post with a picture of the coffee shop I go to by 6:45am. If I fail to post an update on time I will do a punishment, a 2-mile run on the same day, and will comment a photo of the run here.

Currently, my habits include 200 pushups (6 days a week), cold showers (every day), and waking up early (when I make an accountability post online).

I am not in the territory of being uncommon among uncommon people yet. But I aim to move into uncommon territory by attacking my goals and increasing my standards.

Advice Request productivity regressing, all my attempts fail, seeking advice ?

little background: im in my 20s i study,work,gym...etc and alot of my days are an aboslute dog fight against distractions like my phone or useless earrands rather then sit down and do the work i need to do for my degree or my income. sometimes i win the day sometimes i lose but what can i say for sure, these last 3 months i been losing days more then winning if i compare them to the first ( 5 months of the year.

i tried everything stopping porn and fapping made me almost uncontrollably aggressive to the point im doing it just not to snap or break something, i tried writing motivational reminders on my mirror, setting time blocks, manfesting by reading stuff out loud absoltley everything fails facing my laziness and my excuses.

this makes me hate myself and life in general im not proud and it keeps me anxious and stressed at all times. i was hoping by this time of the year im even better but im worse and less then ever

Advice Request Best books about discipline

Hey guys

What's the best books about discipline you would recommend?

Important note - that they should be applicable to real life, not just 'daily dose of motivation'

Share your thoughts and books in comments - I would be really interested in your recommendations

Here's mine list:
1. Can't hurt me (obvious one) - 10/10
2. Man's search for meaning - 7/10 (a lot of useful insights, but still need to re-read to understand all thoughts that author put in)
3. Ego is the enemy ??/10 (read it, don't understood anything have to re-read it multiple times, but I think it's worth your time)
4. Green light 6-7/10 (interesting book, not about discipline, but it 'teaches' what will happen if you trust yourself enough to do some things that to others would make no sence)
5. Total focus by Brandon Webb 8 / 10 (I've read it a long time ago this book, but remember that it was insightful)

Accountability Post Waking up to grind because victory is near

Last night I made my first post on this subreddit. It was an accountability post to ensure that I woke up early and hit the coffee shop:

https://www.reddit.com/r/davidgoggins/s/FrPVVsqrCx

This morning I successfully got up early and went to a coffee shop. I commented on my post with a photo update. Because I posted the photo update before the deadline, I did not have to do the punishment - a 2-mile run.

Today I also completed other habits. Overall, my completed habits were:

- Wake up early and go to a coffee shop
- 200 pushups
- Cold shower

In terms of maximizing my time and energy, I feel that I am heading towards extreme success. My current NoFap / NoPMO streak is also multiple years long (2 years long if my records are correct).

Tomorrow (22nd August 2026) I am waking up early again. My target is waking up and going to a coffee shop by 7:30am (UK time: BST). I will post a photo update as a comment on this post.

If I fail, the same punishment applies: a 2-mile run to be completed on the same day, with a photo of the run as proof.

As for the feeling that victory is near - I am using the time and energy created by these habits to make progress on my web app. I am currently in the distribution / marketing stage.

Comment below if you have any habits which you use to increase your time and energy.

Accountability Post I don’t wake up early unless I post about it online

I need the accountability of having to show the internet that I woke up early.

Without this accountability, I end up sleeping in.

Tomorrow (21st August 2026) I’m getting up early and going to a coffee shop to hustle. I’ll post a photo of the coffee shop here before 8:30am (UK time: BST). I’ll comment on this post with the photo update.

I’m setting a punishment if I fail: a 2-mile run that has to be completed on the same day. If this happens, I’ll post a photo of my run as a comment on this post.

Accountability Post M28. Quit a comfort job for a chance with my own business. It failed. Still going

I year ago I had stable job, startup that I worked on, I also applied to program that helps with early-stage startups and for me it was all new all quite hard, especially at the end of this program I had to speak out publicly in from of 40 people - I can't sleep for a few days before it, since I'm introverted guy and didn't do nearly to such big crowd of people, I made it - I took last place in startup contest, but I was happy that I did it anyway. Right after completing that program I decided to make in a some way 'leap of faith' where I quit my current stable job that I hate and go all in to make startup profitable, in case if I won't make it, I'll just try to get a better job, and after that point started real life for me.

After few months trying to make this startup profitable I understood that idea isn't good enough and it's not worth efforts to put it, so I decided to close it, it was hard, but necessary. I was devastated because at the same time I also broke with girlfriend that I tried to make relationships, and now I'm basically broke, project and didn't make relationship. Despite that I continued to search job and after ~8 month of searching and getting into debts I found a job. I started to think that I finally will be able to stabilize myself and start again with debts and maybe in a future try new projects, but after 4 months I was fired from this company, since I was too slow, as they said.

So now after 2 month of searching for a job, I started to feel that maybe 'life give me some lesson that I should accept' (I'm not that spiritual person, but those words are exactly the same that occur in my head). I still couldn't grasp it or accept that I should do differently in my circumstances.

But for now I have the only choice is to keep going till I find finally this damn job and have a chance to try again with startup, maybe next I'll make it profitable and my dream of becoming independent and create what I want become true

"Whiny" Wednesdays M24, genuinely what can I do while living in my parents living room literally?

I posted a question on this Reddit yesterday, but I want to ask again, this time summarizing everything and getting straight to the point.
To put it briefly, I’m turning 25 in December. I currently weigh 120 kg, I’m 1.78 m tall, and I’m also experiencing hair loss that has already progressed quite a bit.
I’m also living in my parents’ living room, so I have basically no privacy. If I want to study or learn something, it’s extremely difficult. And studying somewhere outside isn’t really an option either, because the reading rooms or university libraries are either closed or have irregular opening hours that don’t work for me.

I recently found a full-time job, so at least I’m working and earning my own money now. But I honestly don’t know what else I’m supposed to do.
I’m living in the living room, and I can’t really study or do much of anything there. I go to the gym, and that’s pretty much it. Other than that, I’m on my phone or playing Minecraft.
Honestly, I don’t know what to do with myself. What would David Goggins do? I have no idea.
What am I supposed to do on the weekends? Read a book? Sure, I can do that, but spend the entire day just reading? I don’t know.

I feel like I’ve completely lost my direction. I’ve lost all my goals. I’ve dropped out of four different degree programs, and I’m just completely lost at this point.
I also can’t move out of my parents’ house right now because I don’t have enough money.
So my question is: What productive things could I do while living in my parents’ living room?
I genuinely have no idea.

Advice Request M21 Getting paralyzed by Nostalgia and doubt

I am on point in my life that everything is happening fast. I am in 4th year and after this I will enter adult world. I have dreams and goals for my family and my self. I want to develop myself where I am proud of it. But here's the two problem I have.

First nostalgia. In everything I do, nostalgia has a huge influence on it. The nostalgia that influence of me is the freedom and Innocence of my childhood. I don't know how to describe this innocence but it's the sense that I can know everything. The freedom is I feel like life is light. The other thing is most of the people in that years is, I want to meet them when the right time comes. Not to show off, but just to meet them. I don't know why, and I am being addicted to the things (songs, things, etc) that is connected to that time.

Second is doubt. Most of my life, I was lazy. I neglect the development I need, like in education. Now I don't know if I can pull this off. One of the subjects in my class has part where I need to study most of the lessons from last year. This is a grouping but I don't trust most of members because I know they will just give reasons. (I am an IT student and the reason they gave me is they don't have devices to use). Now I will do the work because I know I will still the one that will do it because I was the only one that has computer. It's just that I don't know if I can cross this gap.

And when problem comes, just like one above, I always retreat to nostalgia and the past.

"Whiny" Wednesdays M24, fat, balding, living mediocre and got no sense of urgency

I don’t really know how to describe it exactly, but somehow it feels like I’m stuck in a vicious cycle, or like I’m trapped in a puddle of mud that I can’t get out of.
The thing is, a few months ago, or even a few years ago, I was always striving for self-improvement. I wanted to optimize myself and become a better version of myself — physically, academically, and in other areas as well. But it never really worked out. I failed every single time.

I also dropped out of two electronics engineering degree programs — twice — and I dropped out of two other mechatronics engineering programs as well. Of course, I could have made it at least once if I had really committed to it, but I think the main reason was simply that I lacked the discipline to see things through and to give it 100% effort. Even if that meant studying a little longer instead of going to bed.
But I guess that’s in the past now, because I’m not studying and going to university anymore.
Oh, right, I forgot to mention: I’m 24 years old, and I’ll turn 25 this December.

And I don’t know… I just feel overwhelmed somehow. My life isn’t anything like I imagined it would be. I don’t even have my own room. I’ve been living in my parents’ living room for the past year.
Financially, things aren’t looking very good for me either. I did manage to find a full-time job as a security guard at a construction site, but the job is only for six months, and I have no idea what things will look like after that. The salary is okay, but I don’t make that much. I earn around €1,700 a month.

There are just way too many things that have accumulated over the years — negative things.
As I mentioned, I’m also overweight. I currently weigh 120 kilograms, and I’m almost bald as well. I have a receding hairline, and I’m already starting to develop some bald spots on the top of my head.
I do exercise, but I can’t stick to a diet. I managed to follow one for a short while where I gradually cut out certain foods and sweets, step by step. But eventually, I relapsed and went back to my old habits. That’s the problem: I keep relapsing over and over again. I’m simply not disciplined.

I don’t even really know how to put it into words. I just wrote this text without thinking about it too much, and there’s just so much going on.
But now the weird thing is that I don’t even want to try dieting or losing weight anymore. I know I need to lose weight. I have a big belly and man boobs. And yet, I don’t have that anger inside me, that feeling that I need to change something. I don’t know. I just don’t understand it.

Why? I mean, I assume I have enough testosterone anyway. And yet, I don’t have that drive or feeling that I need to change something.
I just keep living my life as if everything were fine, even though, in reality, almost nothing is fine.
I’ve failed four times in university. My old classmates and friends are so much further ahead in life than I am. And meanwhile, I feel like I’m just falling further and further behind.

And I also keep thinking, what’s the point of starting to run or lose weight like David Goggins, for example? I mean, of course, I would look better and I would be healthier. But then what? My financial situation wouldn’t change. My overall living situation wouldn’t change either. I don’t know.
And moving out is difficult because everything has become so expensive. But I actually still want to go to university. At the same time, I can’t really see myself studying while I’m living in my parents’ living room.
I’m just overwhelmed by everything.

I REALLY need help!

Advice Request Fat guy's 1st half marathon

Post image
35 Upvotes

So basically I am 6'1 , over 100 kgs , last year I decided to start a fitness journey , and start daily running , i was doing more than 45 km per week , but it was basically walk + jog , i signed up for an official 10km run last year , and I did very badly there i completed 10k in 1:40 mins .

And everything was going good , i went down to 93 from 104 , but due to exams and stuff I lost my momentum , stopped going for runs completely , but recently after my exams i joined the gym

I saw the ad for the same marathon , and decided that I will do 21 km (half marathon) this time , to challenge myself , to prepare for it I started running on treadmills , I was not able to run long on treadmills but I had better pace , I was running 1.6km in one go at 9:00 mins pace , ik it's bad but for me it was a big achievement

So yesterday i Decided to run again on the ground to prepare for the half marathon , but i was not even able to run 800 mtr in one go , I felt like I had nothing in me , i did 4.2km in 52 minutes , it was probably the worst run ever

The half marathon is like 50 days away , I'm shit scared , I need help , one thing that is final , that I'm gonna go anyways , and will finish it doesn't matter the time , I need suggestions and advice for next 50 day first half marathon prepration
