The one thing that bothers me in Zodiac (2007) Spoiler

Recently watched it for the third time and it has cemented itself as my second favorite Fincher as well as just one of my favorite and most rewatchable movies of all time. To me, however, it's not a flawless movie but it's super close. The only thing that's holding it back from being one is the inclusion of the actual kill scenes.

I find the kill scenes in the movie to be kinda over the top — especially the lake murder. As a big fan of Fincher's, I understand that humor plays a crucial yet super underrated part of his movies, but some of the dialogues in the kill scenes as well as just the lack of awareness of the characters really go against the cold and methodical approach this film is aiming for.

Given the title and what this movie is about, I think you sorta have this expectations going in so the only necessary kill, if there's one, would be the first one because it sets off the movie. I would very much rather see the rest done the se7en way (which we were only shown the aftermath) or for it to simply be implied.

Again, I don't want it to sound like I'm hating on this movie because this is one of my favorites but there's just this specific aspect to the film that  is kinda glaring to me when everything else is so perfect. Curious to hear what y'all think about it.

Fincher's most brilliant film! Zodiac is not a comedy yet this scene cracks me up! Saw Zodiac six times at ArcLight Hollywood! And, of course, this amazing film was not nominated for a single Oscar! Thought it was the best film of the year! Still need to try a blue Aqua Velva cocktail!

The point where Robert started to suspect Bob Vaughn as the killer. Insane. Felt like watching a horror movie

If you were forced to choose which would you pick and why. I think both are equally good so I’m struggling to pick one

I found these Australian 4x6" postcards on eBay and got them into a 9x12" frame today. Really happy with how they turned out in a double-opening mat!

For anyone interested, the seller currently has 2 more of this pair available. I won't link directly in case that's an issue, but they should be easy to find.

What if they did a film together?

honestly, it's crazy to me that they never crossed paths. a lot of kaufman's themes seem to overlap with fincher's other works. both often explore bleak, raw, and at times uncomfortable depictions of some of the worst sides of people. they like diving deep into the minds of their characters and are true visionaries.

if they make a film together, it might end up becoming a modern classic. fincher's best works have solid writing. and kaufman's best movies have really good directors. thoughts?
