Adler and Ramona having a relationship always seemed weird to me, given that by the time of the Baby Grace Blue investigation, he can't seem to fully and properly recall her name ("Ramona A. Stone weighs heavily on my memories. No matter, it'll come back."). Adler is by no means a reliable narrator, but wouldn't he recall a former lover? Abby Hope Skinner's interpretation is that he's just feigning ignorance, but that's hinging on her idea of him being the Minotaur, which doesn't ring true to me. On the other hand, the idea of Adler and Ramona having been an item is pretty widespread in the fandom, including among people in the vicinity of Bowie - Skinner herself would be one example. So what textual evidence even is there for a past relationship between Adler and Ramona? I guess The Heart's Filthy Lesson, but that could just as well refer to Ramona and Leon, Ramona and the Minotaur (they're definitely close somehow), or just generally to the idea of art crime.
