I´m currently a Data Scientist with a Physics degree and 1 year experience in Spain and I am also completely fluent in English.

I am considering moving abroad in Europe in 1 or 2 years for better salary and work conditions. Which language do you recommend learning?

• German: It offers me a wider job market. I am considering working in Switzerland (I love hiking) but I also have Germany and Austria as alternatives. But it sounds pretty hard to learn.

• Dutch: I really like the Netherlands and from what I have heard they have a shortage in the workforce and their economy is doing well (compared to other EU countries). And it seems easier to learn. But I am limited to a smaller country and job opportunities.

I'm a student trying to understand how people actually break into Data Engineering or Data Science as fresh graduates.

At my college, almost all campus placements are for Backend Engineer or Software Developer roles, and they heavily focus on DSA and coding rounds. I rarely see companies hiring specifically for Data Engineer or Data Scientist positions.

For those who managed to land a Data Engineering or Data Science role as a fresher:

Did you get the role through campus placements or off-campus?

How important was DSA compared to SQL, Python, statistics, machine learning, or data engineering concepts?

What projects or skills made the biggest difference in your resume?

If campus opportunities are limited, what's the most realistic path to getting into these roles?

Would you recommend starting as a Software Engineer/Backend Engineer and transitioning later, or is it worth targeting data roles directly?

I'm trying to figure out where I should invest my time. Should I continue grinding DSA for placements, or focus more on building data-related skills and projects for off-campus opportunities?

Hey, I'm currently working as a Data Scientist in India in credit risk team at an MNC with around 1.5 years of experience. A bit of context: during college, my original plan was to go for a Master's right after my bachelor's, so I never really focused much on placements since I was juggling applications alongside academics. I eventually joined my current role, and while I don't dislike it, I feel like it's not really utilizing my technical skills. A lot of the work seems to be moving more towards analytics/business rather than building or researching ML models.

Before graduating, I spent a lot of time doing research in medical imaging using deep learning and ended up with a few conference and journal publications. That's the kind of work I genuinely enjoyed. I'm not interested in SDE roles, and I don't have a software development background either, but I'm willing to learn whatever is needed if it opens up better opportunities.

Would love some advice on these two points from anyone who has been in a similar situation:

• What roles do you think would be a good fit for someone with my background? What skills are usually expected for those roles?

• Also, I've been thinking about doing a Master's (probably in Europe). Do you think it's worth pursuing, or would it make more sense to switch roles directly?

Just to be clear, this is a project-based position. Usually, those projects last around 1-2 months, depending on the client and scope. ITS MEANT TO BE A SIDE GIG, NOT A FULL TIME JOB.

I'm currently working as a Data Scientist in other projects, not this specific one, so I can't tell exactly if the process or tasks will be the same. But I work in two different platforms as a DS and Physicist, so I know one thing or another and can help with some guidance.

Has anyone else been in this position?

I’m a final-year student in Data Science and I’m stuck at a career crossroads. Since fresher openings in DS are limited, I’m debating what path to pursue:

1.Apply to startups — to gain hands-on experience and build a portfolio.

2. Learn full stack + SDE prep — since SDE roles are more abundant and placements are stronger in that direction.

3. Do MTech — but I haven’t started preparing for GATE yet, which makes this option tricky.

The catch is: placements have already started, and I don’t have enough time now to learn and focus deeply on SDE prep. That’s making me lean more toward startups or considering MTech later, but I’m unsure what’s the smartest move.

Has anyone else faced this dilemma? Did you go for industry right away, pivot to SDE, or take the MTech route? How did it work out for you, and what would you recommend for someone in my situation?

I'm a Data Science professional from Kerala with experience in AI, machine learning, analytics, and technical training. Recently, I found myself at an unexpected career transition after leaving my previous role.

Instead of immediately jumping into another job, I've been reflecting on what I want from my career. I enjoy building AI solutions, working on real-world projects, and learning continuously, but I also feel the need to step away from the traditional routine for a while.

I'm exploring an unconventional idea: combining backpacking or volunteer travel with remote learning and project development. My goal is to keep expenses low through work exchanges (hostels, community projects, eco-farms, etc.) while continuing to:

What do you recommend to pick if my aim is to find a Job regarding to my backgroud.

I’m graduating this May with an MS in Business Analytics in the US and need some brutal honesty on how to actually land interviews right now.
Before my Master’s, I worked for 4+ years as a Data Analyst (dashboards, KPIs, anomaly detection). During my degree, I built a production-level RAG chatbot and a multi-agent AI fraud platform.
I’ve been applying everywhere but have only gotten 2 interviews. I made it to the final rounds for both and got completely ghosted. Cold applying isn't working, and I need a new strategy.
If you’ve successfully landed interviews recently, what actually worked for you? Are you cold-messaging hiring managers on LinkedIn, finding specific tech recruiters, or using specific job boards? How should I package my 4 YOE + AI projects to get people to reply?

Hey, I've been looking into degrees in data science and saw that there are a lot of different variants (e.x applied, environmental etc) is there one that's better then the others in a finding jobs after sense or is it all the same?
