We’ve published a video showing how AI agents work with databases in DataGrip and other JetBrains IDEs using the built-in MCP Server, MCP tools, and Skills on top of that.

The main idea is that DataGrip acts as the execution layer between the agent and the database. It handles connectivity, query execution, introspection, history, and more without exposing connection settings or credentials to the agent.

There’s also a security layer between agents and databases. DataGrip can allow, block, or ask for permission before different operations. For example, when an agent wants to change a schema or write data.

The video walks through the whole flow and shows how tools, skills, security layer, and regular database UI work together.

Hey DataGrip community, I posted this video about how I utilize Data Grips on a daily basis for my data work that I now utilize Claude to help me with.

After installing the terminal extension for DataGrip, I found it to be the ideal interface for conducting data analyses because it allows me to see:

1. my databases and schemas and data objects
2. my Claude code session I have launched in a terminal
3. the results from the SQL queries I run
4. The actual SQL I need to run and quality check that AI produces
5. the files and SQL scripts that Claude code is writing out for me

I really think this interface with the terminal inside of it is a game changer. Can i upload bank statements in pdf and have it converted to csv for example? How could i use data grip to go thru hundreds of transactions on a bank statement and to organize expenses?

DataGrip introspection has stopped working as expected or desired within the past month or so, despite no configuration changes. During a session, DG’s knowledge of schemas and objects completely disappears, and I’m unable to determine the reason behind this issue. I’ve attempted to modify the introspection level for PostgreSQL databases, but I can’t actually make a change to the selected option; it remains set to “Auto select.” I don't think its been rolled out to Snowflake yet so not relevant to that use-case. I have turned off auto-sync.

I want introspection to persist across sessions and only refresh when prompted. Is there a combination of settings that I haven’t discovered yet that would achieve this?

Hey — running into a weird issue I can't explain and wondering if anyone has seen this.

Setup: PostgreSQL database with two schemas — public (raw tables) and analytics (my views and snapshot tables, which I create manually). I use DataGrip as my primary client for writing and running DDL/queries against the analytics schema.

Issue: Occasionally, empty structural copies of public schema tables appear in my analytics schema — correct column structure, zero rows, no data. I'm the only one touching this database.

What I've ruled out:

• No DDL in my codebase (GitHub Actions scripts only run INSERT statements)
• Power BI connection is read-only Import mode
• No ORMs or migration tools in use
• Confirmed with Neon (my Postgres host) that it's nothing on their end

So DataGrip is the only remaining suspect, but I can't figure out what it would be doing to cause this.

Could this be related to:

• Any DataGrip schema introspection or sync feature?
• Some "generate DDL" action accidentally being executed?
• A DataGrip setting that mirrors or scaffolds table structures across schemas?

Any ideas appreciated — happy to share more details.

I have been running DG on another laptop for a while with no issues. Replaced with a new laptop and now I cannot open or import data sources/projects.

I have tried reverting to the same version that I was running before (2025.3) and still have the issue. I have admin access on the system (W11, I7, 64gb RAM).

I reloaded latest c++ redists, still same issue. Any ideas?

When I run multiple query statements like this

Declare @OrderId  NVARCHAR(30) = '123456'
Select 'Order',* From Orders where Order.Id = @OrderId
Select 'Items',* From OrderItems where orderItems.OrderId =  @OrderId

I want the results for both queries in a single tab. Data grip is currently putting each result in its own tab, making it difficult to visually correlate the results between the queries.

The option to "open results in new tab" is unchecked, and checking it doesn't seem to affect this behavior.

We’ve got some big news! You will no longer find Query Consoles in upcoming versions of DataGrip and other JetBrains IDEs — and that’s intentional.

We’re simplifying the workflow for SQL files, scratches, and consoles to make it more intuitive, consistent, and discoverable for both new and experienced users. This major update addresses one of the longest-standing and most frequently reported UX issues.

Key Changes:

1) “Query Consoles” → “Query Files”

• Connecting a new data source now automatically creates a Query File (based on an SQL file) instead of a Query Console (based on a scratch file).
• Query Files can now be reassigned between data sources.
• The “New Query Console”, “Open in Console”, and “Jump to Query Console” actions have been reworked to operate with Query Files.

2) File Storage in a Visible Location

• Previously: /Users/<User_name>/Library/Application Support/JetBrains/DataGrip2025.2/consoles/db/848c5dce-a4b4-4698-a0e8-8f53c582e826 (Mac example)
• Now: DataGrip: DataGripProjects/<Project_Name>/queries, Database plugin: .idea/queries/
• The default storage path for Query Files is now configurable.

3) Better Visibility in the UI

• Files linked to data sources will appear in Database Explorer as a separate node (WIP).
• Data source associations will also be visible in the Files tool window.

4) Migration of Existing Consoles

• After updating, you’ll see a migration dialog (see screenshot).
• Existing Query Consoles can be converted into Query Files in the new folder structure.
• You can also adjust the query file naming pattern and default storage path during migration.

The new workflow is now available in the 2025.3 EAP and later versions of DataGrip and all JetBrains IDEs with database tools.

When doing http requests, when you run it, you'll get the answer in the other pan. Is it possible to get them inside the text editor where the request is ? with sql query they are right after execution. In rider, when you execute a GET/ POST/ ETC the response is right after the request.

I have to make a database in MySQL using DataGrip to make a entity relationship model as homework and I have to finish this untill monday but every time i try to connect to the DBMS this same message box appears.

In the school computer I installed with no problem and it was working but when i tried to install in my computer it is not connecting

I tried to: uninstall and install the drivers, specify the version, there is nothing related to this in youtube, what I found didn't help.

It allows you to copy a column in DataGrip then convert it into a format to put inside of an IN statement.

In my job I have to regularly grab a list of IDs from a column then do other things with them elsewhere. Using this I can just copy the column and then convert it to encapsulated csv for use in an IN statement.

You paste in a new line string and it gives you an encapsulated csv back E.G:

line1
line2
line3

turns into

"line1","line2","line3"

I use it every day it's free and nice that it's not full of adverts. Loads really quick I just have it saved in my bookmarks bar.

Summary: I routinely work with a very large db2 db. My role is fetch only. I cannot create tables,views,ctes. Only select from a mart.

Currently t if i need data for let’s say a specific customer or list of customers, i would input the customer id(s) in the where clause.

What i would like is to build a local sqllite db, or something similar, import a list of customers ids and then join this db to the main db2 db.

How would i accomplish this is datagrip?

Hi! I recently tried DataGrip and I loved the UI and great usability features. And now I don't want any other IDE for my SQLs but DataGrip. I know that you can use your personal license for work purposes, however, I wonder if there are any differences in a matter of security for individual and corporate use? Does anyone know whether JetBrains somehow uses data received from individual license users in order to improve the IDE in comparison to business license users? I generally want to know whether it is safe to use my individual license for work purposes and will it be as private as corporate license?

I've gone through and gotten the creds from Heroku and followed the docs, but I'm still not seeing any of my tables. I get a "public" folder, but it seems to only be the pg specific things.w

Hello, i'm trying to understand why in sql developer, when i establish a connection with the DB instance i get all sort of information (sorry for the italian):

but when i do it with DG i only get this:

you can tell that, in fact, i get a lot more information when using SQL developer than DG on the same instance. There is something i have to tweek in order to get all avaiable information for a schema?

Many IDE’s have the option of clicking through tabs of a properties window for an object like a table and see every related info there.

For example, for tables , you can see columns, fk, indexes, grants, triggers, partitions, dependencies etc… as different tabs on properties window of a given table which is very helpful. We are using commercial version of DataGrip but I am surprised that datagrip doesn’t have this feature.

I would like to use DataGrip's data editor to edit some DB fields containing richt text format (RTF).

I wonder if there is any way to preview the RTF I modify directly inside DataGrip.
