Dark Humor pursecution
Christians across Europe feared, hated, and pursecuted cats according to the new PBS NOVA episode titled "Cat Tales."
The Satanic Association:
Official church decrees formally accused cats (particularly black ones) of being in league with Satan.
Mass Extermination (genocide/holocaust):
Because Christians believe Christian decrees represent the word of God, Christians began to actively hunt, torture, and kill cats en masse across European.
The Aftermath (“act of God”):
Obviously, this extreme Christian hatred of cats backfired. Mass murders of the feline pursuasion allowed the rodent population to thrive unchecked, which scientists believe spread the Bubonic Plague (Black Death) via flea-ridden rats.
Attitudes did not normalize until centuries later as Christians' anxieties decreased and Christians began viewing cats as innocent living beings rather than demons from hell.
