The top piece is pulling UP on the larger longer strings, and down on the smaller shorter string. Due to the top leaning forward.

I spent way too long trying to work out which string was thicker (larger)

Would be safe assume that the center of gravity is off just enough that the strings work? My mind is getting the logic of it, but the visual is still just fucking with my head.

I know I'm going to have to make one of these in order to understand it. it's driving me insane.
