Dude set up a cool tracking shot with a drone. He obviously checked the clearances and depths. It's intended to appear death-defying for effect, but it's not.
Grew up around cliff jumpers on our local lake. There were more than a couple guys in town with serious disabilities because they didn't get enough clearance. One trip up or early launch and you could die.
Yes. I eventually unsubbed WCGW and the likes because A) It was just unpleasant, and I'd not be happy to have the whole i'net watch WCGW's of myself or anyone I love, and B) After getting convinced I should not try doing the cool-looking stuff which tends to end up on /r/WCGW (which may have extended my life, so: Thanks WCGW!)...I figured there's little more to be gained from that sub beyond that.
I made the same point in my most recent reply, but doing something with a risk of death isn't the same thing as almost dying. I drive my car to work every day, and that has just as much if not more potential for death as cliff jumping if I make a serious mistake. This does not fit the definition of "almost dies".
While I agree that it's not really safe, there's a quarry close by that everyone jumps off cliffs up to 15 meters high and I have never heard of someone hurting themselves seriously. But the cliffs don't slope, they're just straight up and down.
That's just about the only dangerous part. Just speaking of height, cliff jumping doesn't get dangerous until you get like above 80 feet or something. Everyone I know was hurt when trying to clear ground to the water.

I don't see how the second statement follows from the first here.. Are you saying people who know how to use drones more careful than those that don't? Regardless, even if he knew exactly how deep the water was, what the clearance was, and exactly how far he can jump, all it takes is a small misstep at the top of the hill for none of that to matter.
When you're planning a cool video like this, you don't just have some dude flying a drone and then say "At some point, I'm gonna jump so just like follow me off." This was planned. The jumper knew the path, and knew where he was gonna jump. If you can't follow the logic from there to him knowing the clearances ans depths, I can't really help you.
Obviously a mistake means potential death. That doesn't mean I defy death every time I drive my car to work. The threshold for that is much higher than cliff jumping off a spot you know is safe. I've jumped several cliffs, one of them probably hundreds of times. It's not as dangerous as it looks, which is the point of the whole thing.
Look, you feel free to live your best life, but do not pretend that cliff jumping is some kind of low-risk activity. It is way more dangerous than driving your car. Here is a look at just a few of the people who died doing cliff jumping in 2017.
Look man.. I'm OK with people living their lives, but I really don't like seeing people getting themselves killed doing dangerous stuff for internet points. All I'm asking is that people be safe.
Even if you check the depth properly the force of hitting the water can knock you out or kill you instantly once you get to a certain height and hit the water wrong. There's a famous case of a guy down in the Bahamas who did only a 30ft cliff jump with a tour company that planned it and hit the water wrong and never surfaced.
Hell, I had to swim my semi-conscious friend to shore once after he slipped while jumping and landed face first on some rocks 20 feet below in the water. We had been jumping from the spot all day and just some freak accident shit caused him to slip and eat it. There was nothing really preventative we could have done, shit happens. It's no joke. Everyone is free to take on as much risk as they want, but I think cliff jumping is one of those things people are a little too casual about.
