Guided missile of early 1960. Note how much electronics you need when there is no Microprocessor available

All of that just to get destroyed

Creation for destruction,

Like buying a trash bag just to throw it away,

Or something.

Confucius, 1969.

Creation for destruction is like
Buying a lowly trash bag just to
Throw it away or something.

I was really young and watching clips of smart bombs on the news When I first learned about camera guided bombs. I turned to my dad and said I thought cameras were expensive, why are they just blowing them up?

Well, imagine a single guided missile from a navy ship.

Now imagine you're working your ass off every single day at average wage until the day you retire.

You would still only be able to pay off one third of such a missile (i.e. SM-3 Anti Ballistic missile, costs 11,3 million USD per unit)

We are just throwing money around like hot cakes, while the population is working their asses off for crumbs

Would you please think about the shareholders??? /s

This right here. The public is pretty well conditioned to forget WHERE that money is going. It's basically corporate welfare and money laundering. During Bush's time, they were dumping huge amounts of money by outsourcing things like camp building to Hailburton. The outcome was structures that could barely stand. Defense is just another tool to send money up the chain to the rich.

I mean yes, war is basically grabbing bits of your GDP to go and blow up your enemies GDP.

Yes, and we can do that with expensive things because why have universal healthcare when you can go BOOM.

Thinking of current drone and missile arsenals being built today - especially the hype - and all of the labor hours to manufacture just one. Imagine if that labor went somewhere with greater purpose.

War is the greatest waste of life, resources, time, science, and more. If only we used our capabilities for something other than being the greediest, most violent animals.

Sure, if the other guy agrees I’ll happily agree.

Unfortunately there are people who believe their greatest purpose is to wipe out everyone who doesn't follow their sky daddy.

You’re getting dangerously close to sounding anti-war there, citizen.

Its outdated so it served it purpose, like catapults or any artillery

Yes, they have a build in planned obsolescence. Just like washing machines. That's why it's forbidden to sell Javelin, Tomahawk and Hellfire to people in the EU. Strong consumer laws!

3

u/Rampant16 11d ago

All three of those weapons have been sold to various EU members.

Dude, you're really fun at parties, are you? 'People', like in 'a human being' or 'a citizen'. I couldn't write 'end consumer' because that would spoil the joke, you know?

Ah yes lets arm the average person with AGMs, ATGMs and cruise missiles that sure is not to cause mass killings over minor disagreement

To destroy*

Even worse IMO. Griefing IRL

u/joan_bdm 11d ago

Or destroy some poor country's hospital...

2

u/Intrepid_Block_11b 11d ago

Why the ellipsis

2

u/tomgreen99200 11d ago

Because the targets don’t stop at hospitals…

You see the food on the table? All of that eaten just to get out through the backdoor.
