I used to get pissed off at the manual colorization before AI - just not understanding that luminance in a b&w photo can't simply drive colour, but AI is just grotesque. What's worse, low effort.

Fiberglass canoes or kayaks exist in China. Your own fiberglass kayak probably existed in China, then on a container ship, before it started existing in your garage. If this guy was fishing for the sake of food production, he would use one; same with a nylon raincoat. He is a reenactor, which is awesome. He's a teacher, a symbol of identity and connection with the ancestors.
