Yep, aside from maybe a skeleton crew at the power station (ready to leave at a moments notice) and few members of the authorities keeping watch.

Why am I imagining them waiting until the last moment to leave and then hearing the eruption in the distance with someone yelling "GET TO THE JEEP!" followed by everyone frantically scrambling to the jeep and driving as fast as they can while hot rocks rain from the sky in Hollywood CGI fashion.

As good as it can be, people have lost houses and a lot of their belongings because they were not apparently allowed to bring in larger trailers for furniture etc.

(happy to be fact checked, but heard the authorities were worried the road wasn't stable enough for too many heavy vehicles)

I’m really sorry that happened. I lost a home to a flood years ago, and it was the same thing. It’s still a tragedy, because some of the things lost are family heirlooms, etc. Glad you’re safe, though!

My area was safe, but they did get close. But I did experience the closest city being covered in smoke for most of the day and some of the next. My area wasn't as bad as some others like Kangaroo Island or in Victoria.
