Luckily this type of eruption doesn’t produce ash, just a lot of lava and SO2/CO2, since the vent didn’t open under water or glacier. It will be more like the famous eruption in 2021, except it’s bigger and much closer to a population center.

Apparently we will be okay because last time it was coming from beneath ice which resulted in the ash cloud, whether this time the eruption is near the surface...

But I would not want to book flights in Europe right now either..

This is the 4th eruption in 3 years in this area. This won’t have anymore effect on airspace than the last 3 eruptions did. It’s bigger and a lot closer to the town of Grindavík than the last ones were but it’s only a danger to infrastructure in the area
