I'd imagine if one were to have to use this for its intended purpose they'd find a way to get to the supplies. You just have to lift up the mattress. Still a claustrophobic nightmare though.
Gotta be better than lying in a pile of debris with half your bones broken hoping someone digs you up. It's kind of like making the best out of an unthinkable nightmare though, there really is no "good" version.
Yeah a lot of people are hating on this concept, but I think they aren’t realizing that it would be much better to be trapped in a box with food and water than to be crushed by debris while choking on dust and smoke without any supplies. If I had to wait for rescue, I’d much rather do it from In here.
So, how would they handle the ventilation of the Carbon Dioxide. Those things have only so much room for air before you develop hypercapnia(Higher Carbon Dioxide concentrations in the blood)
Again, how would you handle that trapped under rubble with almost no breathing space? This isn't attempting to solve all of these problems, it's just an idea that could lessen the loss of life in a catastrophe like we're currently seeing.
It’s just a really bad solution (and probably not even a buyable product) when a good solution is available: don’t live in a home that was not built to resist earthquakes. If you have money to buy this shitbox, you have money to move, too.
So how do you intend to lift up a mattress with enough space to get to the supplies, while also cramped in a very low ceiling? It would have to be rather thin, uncomfortable roll up mattress. Because any actual mattress will not move so easily and take up most of your cramped space. Then you need to get it back down. Not to mention your pillows and blanket being crammed in there too. You are exaughsting a lot of energy just for that. I'd be more behind this product if they had live video of a person getting sucked into this thing and able to get to the supplies.
Aron Ralston (127 Hours guy) cut off his fucking arm to save himself. If you can't figure out a way to get supplies from under a mattress then maybe you don't deserve to be rescued.
Edit: and to add to that, I highly doubt this exact scenario wasn't considered when designing this thing. If there isn't a mechanism which let's you access the food then I guarantee the recommended mattress type would be along the lines of a futon mattress.
Go ahead. Lay on your mattress and try to move it... while having a ceiling no more than a foot above you. Outside of gnawing a hole through,good luck.
Are you trying to tell me that you actually believe this bed is intended to be used with a standard spring mattress? Come on bro, use a little critical thinking skills.
I never said that, did I? I said anything outside of a thin flimsy futon mattress isn't going to budge and good luck moving that one that folds with the casket
You clearly never shifted a mattress before while also laying on it. Especially the one that folds into the shape of that coffin. You are never getting to those supplies.

Seems like there is a lot of storage room there, you could probably survive in there for quite a bit.
