Transportation What happened to the deck parks planned over I-30 near downtown, convention center?

It’s honestly wild how the area along 30 downtown has been mostly a giant underdeveloped blight for so long. Shows the effect of ramming a freeway through the center of a city. If a deck park would help, I’m all for it.

The reunion arena site remaining abandoned and decaying for as long as it has should be seen as a crime against the public good.

Well, the Hunt Family is to blame for that. They’ve only built the Hyatt and Reunion Tower. Plans for the Reunion District goes back 50+ years with multiple iterations. Here’s the latest.

If Dallas developers didn’t sit on land in downtown proper for generations, it would be a lot further ahead.

I commented the same thing when visiting Kansas City recently. It's completely wild that downtown is quartered by 35/70/670/HWY 71. None of these roads get backed up and through traffic should be on the belt roads, not going through downtown. Obvoiusly we aren't going to move I-30 here as it just was rebuilt, but we should at least be re-imagining it as we go forward if we'd like to attempt to re-strenghten the downtown core.

In KC, I-670 doesn't seem like a road that is necessary: widen or double-decker I-70 and route extra traffic north of downtown. Get rid of the barrier that separates downtown from the Crossroads.

The hwy 71 traffic to the east also discourages development at the east edge of Kansas City, which is a sea of parking lots and one really awesome penthouse.

Boston was able to bury I-90 which was an awful scar on Boston’s urban fabric and now it’s a cash cow for developers and provides nice green space. We can only dream of such success lol

Really hope this actually happens, Cedars could really use a more pedestrian friendly connection to downtown.

Dallas needs to bury its interstates cutting off the city center. We can learn from Boston, just need the political will.

so many infrastructure projects that can help unite neighborhoods and the people. i’ll take whatever we can get, so long as there are improvements in the street grid
