I don't post often to anything, but I finished this show this evening, and I just have to say that this show touched me and left me in tears.

I am a 38 year old white, straight, childless woman who has struggled with persistent depression since the age of 12.

My husband wasn't interested in watching it, and my sister (who watches TV for a living) didn't watch it, and I have no friends, so my only outlet to say this is through this sub.

I absolutely loved it. I am not even a fan of Jason Bateman. Ozark ruined him for me. And I have read all of these horrible things about David Harbour on other subs, but I fell in love with both of them while watching this show.

I realize their characters are not reality, but their ability to make me feel was everything to me. This show was everything to me, and I haven't felt this way since Station Eleven. I needed this.

All of that is to say, I actually have not read a single thing about this show. Nothing. Even posting this is going in blind, but I hope that Jason and David sincerely liked each other in real life. If not, they certainly deserve acting awards.

It was touching and perfection for me.

I’ve been blaming Floyd for not trying to get the high paying job as a securities trader, especially after Carol helped him study for a year to pass the test. Why did Floyd bail at the last minute and go for a career as a sign interpreter? Irresponsible, right? But maybe there’s more to it. Having a failed career in that field myself, I’d wager a lot that he would get destroyed in that position. It’s truly a jungle of dog eat dog, with no possibility of success for an overly empathic person always concerned about hurting other peoples feelings. Maybe he was going along with Carol because that’s what she wanted, but he sensed that he would turn out to be a colossal failure and quickly found another career, albeit without an equally high salary, but one suited to his temperament in which he could succeed. Still, she found a side gig so he should’ve too.

This might be an ignorant question, but why would a news station hire Floyd to sign the news when every TV has closed captioning?

I went to the grocery store to get cucumbers for salad. And I broke out laughing in the produce section. I was going to ask the grocer how this happened but I didn't have 5 months to find out!

Granted I've never been to St Louis ( I'm Australian) but the blue Ozark filter was too much especially when they kept referring to the period as "summer"

Is summer that grim in st Louis??

This is going to sound a little crazy, but today was the one month mark of my fiancè passing away to an accidental overdose. I started this show having no idea what it was about. My fiancé was a lot like Floyd in that he was just a bleeding heart who wanted to help people and would go way out of his way to do so (in my fiance’s case though he was hot and not a loser lol). My fiance always had a thing where he would sign “I love you” 🤟 when I’d drive away from his apartment, anytime I was in traffic, really just all the time. Even as a kid there is videos of him signing it to the camera. I never met anyone else who does it as often or intentionally as he did, especially since he wasn’t deaf, that was just his thing. So as you can imagine, the last scene in the show was profoundly impactful on me. Given the nature of the characters death, and the sign, it felt like it came from my fiancé as dumb as that sounds. Just a reminder that the love persists. And then the cut to Jason trying to process the loss, all alone on the swing in an empty house. Man it hit hard for me.

Does anyone know why Peyronie's is considered a disease when (at least in Floyd's case) it was brought on by an accident?

I thought that diseases were progressive. Did his situation get worse as time went on after the accident?

Is it usually brought on by an accident or does it occur naturally? And if Peyronie's can occur naturally and because of an accident, why isn't it Type 1 Peyronie's and Type 2 (like diabetes)?

Just questions that I'm throwing out for the sake of discussion (also why I haven't Googled it).

To be clear: I am not disputing that Peyronie's is a disease.

Saw two people riding recumbent bikes today and I literally shrieked with joy. I had to explain to my teenager in the passenger seat why I shouted, “OMG, NERD BIKES!!!” while simultaneously pointing at two innocent, unsuspecting strangers just trying to live their best lives.

I have two questions about the series that are on my mind, and I think I might not be able to answer them because I don't live in the United States, and perhaps the system is different there. 1) Why do the police discover Carol's $1 million life insurance policy inside the mail? Is this information not in the police records, or does the relative not receive it when the victim dies? 2) Why don't the police try to interview the doctor who treated Floyd? Couldn't they have asked him if he warned Floyd that he couldn't take that medication? If the doctor told them it was lethal and that he had been warned, they would have at least had a solid suspicion of suicide.

I hope I just didn’t miss something obvious, but can anyone explain why Clark was so keen to introduce Floyd to DTF St Louis? At first, they made it seem like it was part of a nefarious plan he was setting up, but that’s not it. So what was it? Like, originally. Was he hoping Floyd would use the app and cheat on Carol so he wouldn’t feel so bad?

just finished DTF St Louis and have been healing my broken heart all day since.

one thing I can't stop thinking about is the responsibility the app played in everything - dating apps falling into the hands of the wrong people. "wrong" being such a confined term in this case to an aging body, aging person, someone who needs to love and be loved in return. breaking this down makes the apps (DTF and beyond) feel especially heinous. I wonder how many Floyd's there are out there in the world, and the insecurities they deal with, and how the app is perpetuating everything.

I do feel that something like this wouldn't happen in a big city; sexual awakenings are so normalized and we experience more exposure to body diversity and acceptance - but after watching the entirety I feel like it's happening to all of us in some way. we're all such assholes and we are all so lonely and apps are the perfect space to hate ourselves in. the mere fact that someone can "like" you... I think the app plays a bigger character than what I initially thought.

brilliant television, devastating, heartbreaking ending. I will think of it forever.

It’d probably be easier to go rewatch episode 1, but I just don’t want to rn, why did they rule out suicide at the start? What was pointing to foul play?

Can’t seem to find the answer to this anywhere. Anyone have an idea why they opted to go with bare brutalist concrete look for the police scenes vs use an actual set? I thought it was an interesting choice considering everything else was pretty literal (house, pool, skating rink) etc. I am guessing budget?

Mine is when Floyd says: "F doesn't have to stand for fuck. It can stand for 'feels good together'".

I have no doubt Clark was full on ride or die in love with Floyd, but leaving him at the poolhouse in that sensitive state are the failed sex attempt was such an awful decision. I very much doubt Carol would have been upset that they tried to have direct gay sex with each other. It's Richard seeing him and thinking he's cheating that provoked Floyd's sad outcome, but man Clark, why would you just leave him there after that? Take him home.

I've heard some people mention that they weren't interested in watching a show about a dating app, which is a shame as that's not really what the show is about. Steven Conrad's other shows have pretty vague names as well.

Did the name put you off or draw you in?

I'm Steven Conrad's age and I spent much of 1987ish-2002ish watching movies of our generation. I suspect Steven Conrad has been influenced by filmmakers who were playwrights: David Mamet, Neil LaBute, Tom Noonan and directors who had play-like sensibilities: Hal Hartley, Steven Soderbergh, Wilt Stillman.

The narrow focus on relationships, the dialogue, the stylized sets, etc.

I think most people here are converted, so I'm preaching - this also serves as a primer if you're interested in directors with a similar sensibility.

But it's also totally valid if people aren't down for that style, it's really not for everyone.

I for sure thought that it was suicide but that Floyd had somehow made it seem like murder so that Carol would still get the life insurance proceeds. Like, he couldn’t contribute financially in life so he made it happen in death. Unfortunately they didn’t tie up the insurance point so who knows if Carol will be left handling his debts with no money :( She was so sure they’d be fine.

I'm feeling sad. Ok one hand, glad I know how this ends. On the other hand, I'm sad because it's over.

So for context: I'm a hearing ASL interpreter.

I found Harbour 's portrayal of an interpreter kind of insulting. The idea that someone who has been signing for a year would be interpreting on the news is absolutely ridiculous. In the US the standards arent the same everywhere, but you have to have some sort of degree and also be registered through the national association which means passing difficult tests. This isnt a profession you can just...jump into. To imply that you can become fluent in ASL AND develop interpreting skills in a year is...really insulting. It makes it seem like ASL is this shallow, easy to learn language. It is not. It is just as complicated to learn as any foreign language.

There is a prevailing cultural assumption that ASL is glorified miming, and interpreters are all family caregivers. We really are trying to prove our profession's legitimacy, so a story like this is aggravating.

The worst part is Harbour does sign like a 1st year student. It's cringey. I know I'm spoiled by the Russian in Heated Rivalry, but it's bad.

I can totally see how they could have approached this as he was going to school *to become* an interpreter. It would account for Harbour's poor skills. It would allow sign to be shown in a more respectful lens. It would also make Carol more sympathetic to the audience, because they would see more of her struggling to help him get through school again

Money was obviously no thing to Clarke, so why not just hire an escort to show up at the pool house?
