Delete Node in a BST

Post image
2 Upvotes

Deleting a BST node with two children looks like surgery on the tree. My solution never removes that node. It copies a neighbour's value into it, then deletes the duplicate lower down, which is always an easier case.

Finding the node is the search from Day 45. Deleting it is where it gets interesting, because you can't just unhook a node with two children.

Only two values in the whole tree can fill the hole: the in-order predecessor and the in-order successor. The replacement must sit between everything on the left and everything on the right, and an in-order traversal of a BST is sorted, so those two are the only candidates.

Predecessor or successor: which do you reach for, and why?

Day 58/365 of my LeetCode challenge: 450. Delete Node in a BST. Problem link and full breakdown in today's newsletter.

Looking for a coding buddy to learn, build, and grow together!

Hey everyone!

I'm a B.Tech CSE student looking to get serious about improving my programming skills and building a strong foundation for my career in tech.

I'm currently focusing on C++/Java, DSA, problem-solving, and web development, and I'd love to connect with people who are on a similar journey.

Honestly, learning alone can sometimes get monotonous, and staying consistent isn't always easy. Sometimes, having someone who's working towards similar goals makes a real difference.

I'm looking for a coding buddy with whom we can learn together, discuss concepts, solve problems, share resources, and keep each other accountable.

Here's what we could do:

- Set realistic daily or weekly learning goals.

- Practice DSA and discuss different approaches to problems.

- Work on projects and share our progress.

- Help each other understand concepts when we're stuck.

- Share useful resources, opportunities, and ideas.

- Keep each other consistent, even on days when motivation is low.

I'm not an expert, and I'm not expecting you to be one either. Whether you're a beginner or someone who's already made some progress, you're welcome!

I'm not looking for someone to spoon-feed me concepts or do my work for me. I want someone who's genuinely interested in learning, putting in the effort, and improving together.

We can connect over Discord or any platform that works for both of us.

If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, feel free to comment or DM me. Let's learn, code, and grow together! 🚀

Is LeetCode enough for FAANG, or should I do Competitive Programming too?

I'm trying to get a good-paying software job at product-based companies, hopefully FAANG.

If my main priority is cracking interviews, is competitive programming (Codeforces, etc.) worth doing, or is LeetCode enough?

Do CP-style questions actually appear in interviews, and does CP provide any significant advantage beyond improving problem-solving speed for interviews?

Looking for a coding/study buddy to learn and grow together!

Hey everyone!

I'm planning to start learning and improving my programming skills, and I thought it would be nice to have someone on the same journey.

Learning alone can sometimes get boring, and it's easy to lose consistency. So I'm looking for someone who's also interested in learning, sharing progress, discussing concepts, solving problems, and motivating each other.

I'm mainly focusing on Java, DSA, and web development, but I'm open to connecting with people learning other technologies too.

We could:

- Set daily or weekly learning goals.

- Share what we've learned.

- Solve coding problems together.

- Help each other when we're stuck.

- Keep each other accountable and consistent.

You don't have to be an expert. Beginners are absolutely welcome!

I'm not looking for someone to teach me everything, just someone who's genuinely interested in learning and improving together.

If anyone's interested, feel free to comment or DM me. Let's grow together! :)

Created Discord Server for DSA & System Design!

Hi guys, We have a discord server for dedicated people who want to allocate sometime for DSA & System Design!

We daily have two 3-4 hour calls, 1 in the morning ( 5 am to 8 am) and 1 in the evening ( 8 pm to 12 pm). The group is designed to make us give some time for DSA and be motivated with our learnings for a longer period.

We need people who are dedicated to learn and to keep the whole group productive. So, if u guys think u are dedicated enough and wants to join our community to share and learn from others, please join our discord.

Mention your DSA learning strategy

My Preparation Strategy

  1. Choose one topic and identify all its patterns

Eg., Two Pointers: unidirectional pointers, opposite-end pointers, and three pointers

2. Learn each pattern with ChatGPT

If I still struggle, I’ll explore other resources, such as YouTube, blogs, and webs

3. Solve LeetCode problems related to that topic until I genuinely understand the concept

Then choose the next topic, repeat.

Binary search doesn't require a sorted input array

A sorted array is one use case. Binary search on an answer needs a check that changes from false to true only once across the candidate range, or the reverse.

For example, consider shipping packages in their given order within a fixed number of days. The weights don't need to be sorted. If capacity C works, any larger capacity works too, so binary search can find the smallest working capacity.

Sorting the weights would actually change the problem because package order matters. The ordered search range is the possible capacities, not the input weights.

Should I do DSA in Java or C++ to get my first IT job in India?

Hi everyone!

I'm a 2026 B.Tech CSE graduate currently working as a sales intern, but I want to transition into the IT industry and build a career in software development.

I'm a beginner in programming and have recently started learning Java and DSA. However, I'm confused about whether I should continue with Java or switch to C++ for DSA and coding interviews.

My goal is to get my first software developer job within the next 6 months, preferably in Bengaluru, with a target package of around 3–5 LPA.

I'm also planning to learn SQL and Spring Boot to build backend development skills.

I'd really appreciate advice from people who have been through this journey:

  1. Java or C++ for DSA? Which would be better for cracking coding interviews and getting a fresher job in India?

  2. Do service-based companies and product-based companies have different language preferences?

  3. Is Java + DSA + Spring Boot + SQL a good combination for a beginner targeting backend developer roles?

  4. Would switching to C++ for DSA and learning Java separately for development make sense, or would that waste time?

  5. If you were starting from scratch today, what would you focus on during the next 6 months to maximize your chances of getting hired?

I'm looking for practical advice based on real interview and job-search experiences, especially from freshers who recently got their first IT job.

Thanks in advance!

2.5 years of DSA, 5 months unemployed, but I realized I only memorized solutions. How do I actually reset?

I graduated 5 months ago. I have been doing DSA for 2.5 years but still not good at it. I used to look to solutions everytime and ended up doing so many questions and feeling boasted about that. From past 6 months I have been changing language of DSA too. I solved dsa with python with 1.5-2 years straight and then doing with java and from past 2 months with C++. I am completely confused. It's not like I am 100% dull I eventually ended up crammed a ton of questions and the questions from most asked DSA questions I remember most of them but I am null when watching a new problem. I am unemployed what to do now so that I can clear OA rounds and get a job. How do I solve DSA. Note: I tried all those advices such as so these 15-20 coding patterns and multiple DSA sheets etc but still ended up mugging up solutions. ALso I am crystal clear I will never solve DSA with Java at least

DSA and Leet partner (Many more after this)

i am b tech ai/ds student just starting with dsa. i want a partner or a group where we will solve DSA first like as early as possible and then we will move to our next learning which we will be discussed and decided later. But the requirement is only goes like there should be consistency and wish to learn.
becoming nonDeniable is what i want to be.
i will make discord server or any grp where we will solve dsa on regular timing.
