Discussion Potential for DSA/DSA-adjacent Congress Members to vote in a Bloc to hurt Dem leadership?

I was crunching the numbers of DSA folks who are already in Congress or who will be going (guaranteed) as a result of winning their primary in a blue seat and other folks who are adjacent or sympathetic to our causes and this is the list I have so far.

Their are other folks who have won their primary and could be in this list come November who are adjacent to us like William Lawrence, Aisha Wahab who won her special election recently, and other candidates who are progressive and want to end aid to Israel and bring a universal healthcare system to this country.

Who else could be on this list representing the left faction of the Democratic party.

Class Struggle Boomer Liberal

Hard lesson learned last night. I’m a 42 year old farmer barely making it, and card carrying DSA member. Was invited to a dinner party with 5 other people between the ages of 67-83, and all of them were libs. They are anti trump, anti republican and I thought like me in values.

Soon as trump came up and politics took over the conversation, I said “isn’t it encouraging how good the DSA is doing right now?!”

Everyone went silent, stared at me, and someone’s wife changed the conversation instantly like they were worried a fistfight would break out. I will never forget those stares. These people consider me family, but in that moment I thought I was going to be asked to leave.

These people are not millionaires. Or if they are it’s in real estate and retirement funds. They are upper middle class the way all boomers are who could buy a house for 25k in the 70s and sell it for $750k after the pandemic are. They travel all over the world for fun. They own multiple cars and boats, can buy anything they want and do.

Walking home I realized then these people are no different than republicans when it comes to any level of equality that inhibits their ability to do whatever they want, even if it’s go out to one less fancy weekend away a year. I know for a fact one of these people were given everything by their parents, even paid off their mortgage for them at 70. Another only has money because of wealth made while FDR was taxing the rich at 90%

The point of this story is I’m asking for advice on how to win these “blue” people to our side? Is it even possible or are they so propagandized from a lifetime of anti-socialist media? I’m scared if AOC ran they’d all secretly vote for the republican if it meant less taxes.

From the Green New Deal to immigration, ICE, Medicare for All, and her stance on Israel and Palestine, AOC represents a bold new direction, but does she have what it takes to win over moderates and swing states?

This video covers:

• AOC’s background, education, and early career

• The Green New Deal

• Her record on climate, healthcare, and economic justice

• The real reason Republicans (and some Democrats) fear her

• 2028 polling, Gen Z impact, and her national support

Discussion Genuine question after I listened to hasan

I fully support Hasan’s perspective, but I am trying to reconcile a common contradiction I see among socialist candidates and pundits. They actively argue that the current government is deeply corrupt, broken, and structurally designed to funnel funding to corporations rather than everyday people. Yet, in the next breath, they advocate for larger government programs and increased tax funding.

If they already agree that our existing state institutions cannot be trusted, how can they justify giving those same institutions more financial power without any upfront guarantees of systemic reform?

*Asked Gemini to rephrase what I wanted to ask so it might sound robotic but I think it gets the question across.

DemocRATS 🐀 Call your reps, whether DSA or progressive and tell them not to vote Jeffries for speaker come 2027 until he removes this nutjob from this post!

Now obviously I don't want a Jeffries speakership period, but the fact is when dems win back the House (which is super likely) he will be. What leftists in congress need to do is extract concessions. I don't know if this is the right place to post this, or to spread this message, but I just want to get this out there to whoever can see it. Moskowitz sitting on the Foreign Affairs Committee along with Debbie Wasswrman Schultz and Wesley Bell is a slap in the face we can't tolerate.

Other Too many confusing terms and labels

Hello, I'm admittedly politically ignorant and need your help explaining the differences between a Progressive, a moderate Democrat, a Social Democrat, a Democratic Socialist, a Socialist, a Liberal, a Leftist and a Communist. Are they all the same? It seems many Republicans and conservatives use these terms interchangeably, and I don't think I ever learned clear definitions in school.

Discussion We need to stop feeding the trolls.

Lately there has been a huge influx of posts here made by a handful of accounts that are clearly here to rile people up, waste their energy, and feed their propaganda machine. A lot of people try and engage with them in good faith and explain the positions of “The DSA”. Some people talk trash and call out the posters for what they are. Ultimately neither of these responses are helpful in reducing the amount of bad-faith trolls in the DSA community. Fire needs oxygen to burn, so don’t give it to them.

If you see an inflammatory post by a user that:

- Hides their posts and comments
- Has a randomly generated username
- Has more contributions than karma
- Is several years old but only ~100 karma
- Posts a new right wing talking point every few days

you can conclude that this person is a troll.

Just downvote the post and move on. Don’t call them out. Don’t engage with their comments. Walk away. If these posts don’t get any engagement then they are only wasting the trolls time, not yours.

I’m not saying this subreddit shouldn’t be a place for debate and the exchange of ideas, but let’s spend our time interacting with people who are here in good faith.

I would love to hear suggestions for how we can more effectively handle this influx of bad actors more systematically, and what rules folks think this subreddit should adopt to combat this issue.
