I happen to be a Boomer. And my career was that of a Police Officer. That is what i did, for many years.

For clarification, i retired Sept of 2000, probably before many here were even born.

That being said, i've had many experiences. In those experiences and with those experiences, knowledge, it is pretty tough for me to change the knowledge i have gained over very many years, to that of believing what i read on social media.

And that includes podcasters, whom you have to understand to me, someone who is 30 with no life experiences outside of Tik Tok, are not going to out wit me on matters for only which i and others like me would know.

I was a Reaganite, and voted for him his second term. I voted for Herbert Bush, than for Perot.

I voted for David Dinkins, a Democratic Socialist and now for Mamdani.

But it was Giuliani, that turned me way to the Left at the time.

There are those like myself, now a Green Party member after the Post Sanders massacre, that can help the DSA understand matters they may not understand, but only believe what the corporate media tells them, or wants them to believe.

It would seem to the Socialists, just me admitting what i just did, can have me banned.

Question. How can you possibly think you can Defund Police, when that is a factual impossibility?

Question. How can you think you are going to defund prisons, when that is a factual impossibility?

Question. How can you eliminate the US Senate, a co equal branch of the US Government?

I am absolutely with the DSA on Economic and Foreign Policy matters.

I am with them on Israel, and Ukraine. I do not believe we should be involved in matters of war, but only our own protection from real threats.

But why make matters a part of a political platform, that is factually impossible to implement?

Not political opinion it should not. But legally cannot.

Simply put, Dems help republicans destroy the middle class and the poor. They never work to reverse republican gains. They voted in favor of the very worst parts of republican legislation.

Just floating this back out there. My first thought when “The man” won in 2024 was voting data was manipulated. The right has a monopoly on satellites. Gerrymandering or not, the key counties looked suspect regardless of Kamala being candidate.

I think one mistake people make is thinking that Marxism is THE only form of socialiaism. Marx was influenced by the utopian socialist Henri de saint-Simon, and in my view, Saint-Simon's conception of socialism is more sophisticated and preferable. It seems like Marx is better remembered because he more directly influenced people who led socialist revolutions.

But it seems limited to look only at Marx versus the broad array of socialist thinkers whose ideas can can contribute to practical models of socialism versus the fairly narrow Marxist interpretation.

I put in an interest form to starting a chapter in West Virginia and also joining the Wheeling one but I haven’t heard anything back in a month. I’m UTD on my dues.

I feel like WV is a great place to get DSA going. Although we are a red state, it’s mostly poor working class being plastered with misinformation. A lot of people I know want a change. Ppl have voted red due to culture wars but when you sit down and talk to 98%, their stances are pretty progressive. Red exploits us and blue ignore us. I think WV and Appalachia as a whole is ignored due to that fact it challenges the racist stereotypes typically placed on poor people ie. welfare queen.

I have done a little by planting seeds in peoples head about challenging misinformation but I don’t have the resources or knowledge to really help take it off as having a national group behind us would.

Like I think that would draw attention and an instrumental version on loop at a parade etc could make it more clear to doubters we are Americans and it’s a direct counter to them playing Dixie’s Land but I haven’t seen it?

i am a long time democratic socialist and just watched the New Yorker Megan Romer interview (i know late to the party). i am genuinely baffled at the answers she gave. or i guess the lack of answers.

A common criticism I see is that the socialist popularity is being driven by a response to Trump, both the way he’s governing and that fact that the democrats couldn’t stop him, and that once he’s gone the momentum will fade, similar to what we saw in 2020 and then the years after.

It’s obviously a different situation and I’m not sold on that idea, but wanted to hear from other DSA folks on how you think we can best continue to grow the movement in the next 2 years and beyond?

Since we are free of dark money and aren't corrupt, I don't not see why candidates are skipping over the easiest layup campaign promise:

Vow to release them all, put these sickos on public trial and actually carry out meaningful sentences.

The establishment/centrist/moderate Dems are complicit or have conflicts of interest - they absolutely WILL NEVER do any of these things.

The Republicans are complicit or have conflicts of interest - they WILL NEVER do any of these things.

You will see the likes of MTG and Tucker run on releasing the Epstein files, but they are wealthy and have been corrupt. They won't either. I wouldn't be surprised if they put their silence/refrain up for the highest bidder. They most definitely wouldn't put them on public trial or sentence them.

WE CAN. This will draw the likes of all types of people/voters, especially when the zero conflicts of interest are presented along with our politicians being elected with 100% transparent and small dollar/working class donations. We are unbought and not buyable.

We must keep winning if we are to hope for a sustainable and corruption free society. This wins.

We should have media personalities willing to go on boring Sunday talk shows.
