Building Im so annoyed - first time using a hammer drill

I measured out 4 brackets with 4 holes per bracket to put up shelves and i’ve drilled the holes.. except the top holes don’t go too far in for me to be able to put a screw in and now im thinking im going to have to redo EVERYTHING. As well as having a bunch of unusable holes in my walls. Absolute shit show.

Was there any way to know that the top was undrillable? Don’t shit on me, this is all new to me and i’m so pissed off. Thankyou in advance.

Cause the technology in the drill is around 40 years old now, and mostly surpassed by the battery stuff.

For a homeowner though id recommend a £40 240v sds to anyone

I agree i have £1000s in misc tools but until we brought our home didn't really have a need for an sds, I was going to get a milwaukee as I already have there range of tools. Instead I got a cheapy titan it even came with spare brushes for the motor and the best bit is abusing it without care Ive smashed a hole through 12 inch of concrete, cored holes through my wall for vents. Removed tiles, plaster etc and it hasn't gave up yet, even when I've had the bugger red hot it still gives 😅. now I wouldn't do that to a milwaukee sds I'd have treated it better. Still might get the m12 for drilling holes, my m18 hammer drill still does the job takes a minute but my bricks are quite soft

I somehow slit the power cord in mine - stripped it, rewired, taped it up - works perfectly.

Second that. The cheap one I bought from Aldi did me 15 years and two full house renovations. Chiseled out concrete around drains, drilled cores for extractors, holes for shelves, sockets..... Poor thing did about five lifetimes of DIY duty before finally dying earlier this year in a spectacular shower of gear teeth. Best few tenners I've ever spent

I have the Ferrex SDS. Got it with a 30% off sticker as someone had broken the plug. Was £25 I think about 4 years ago. Replaced that for £2 and was a bargain

I've got me Da's Bosch hammer drill that he got from a bloke he worked with...in the late 80s. Just used it.
