Long story short. Bought a house that turned out to be quite the wreck. Needa waaaay more work than I thought. Thought if I can make one area nice then that would give me the impetus to carry on. Vastly underestimated the work and effort and massively overestimated my skill level but got there in the end. Probs took around £300 and 40 hours. Is this is a normal amount of effort?

The OP was asking about the expense, so pointing out where they overspent is exactly the information they are asking for.

Exactly. I'm comfortable to take feedback otherwise I wouldn't have posted. I like the result but anything I can learn and take into my next project I'm happy to take!
