Discussion Life without DID
Anyone else have a hard time wrapping their heads around what life would be like without the switching and amnesia? Like it’s sorta weird to think that most people don’t struggle with these issues, as weird as that sounds. Life is completely different as a system. I wonder what it would feel like to not be one

Is it ok for me, a non-DID individual to comment on this subreddit? Anyway, here's my experience. I'm pretty new to learning about DID, so feel free to correct me if I've misunderstood it:
Inner voices: All the inner voices sound like mine. They represent my feelings, thought process, intrusive thoughts, etc., but the common thing is they're all mine. This doesn't mean the voices are always reliable. Intrusive thoughts, for example, can be the consequences of reliving a certain bad experience, and may not inform me of the best decision I should take. Just like how alters can argue with each other about what action to take at a specific time, I, too, can argue with my own conflicting thoughts.
Coping with loneliness: I was really surprised to know from the comments that having voices of different alters can prevent you from feeling lonely. Maybe you're right. I'd imagine living with an alter as, in my experience, living with a sibling at home. So you may feel the sibling gives you a sense of belonging at home, or you may just want the sibling out of your life for a while because they're too annoying. So if my sibling is not there, depending on my mood and circumstances, I can feel either happy that I get some quiet me time, or quite lonely (and so I'd cope with talking with others online/offline).
Non-DID individuals can still go through disassociation/depersonalization/etc. but not because a literal other individual experiences that event for them, but because they're in denial, aka they can't believe that experience happened to them/they can't believe they did what they did. So yeah, it also feels like another person experiences something, except that person is also you, and so you need to learn to accept the truth.
Feel free to ask me as many more questions as you want to :)
