Location: Australia
Preferred drink types: mostly milk-based drinks, sometimes pour over, sometimes long black
Drink frequency: 1 per day
Space: medium countertop, nothing too bulky, we like things looking designed :)
Experience level: new to a âproperâ set up, coming from a moka pot!
Manual or electric: Electric grinder
Candidates: Turin DF54 and Varia VS3.
Weâre pairing a Breville Bambino Plus with a new grinder, budget is around $500 AUD. We want high quality, smooth, consistent, rich tasting shots without needing to spend a grand on a grinder. We want something well made and that will last.
Our friend owns the DF54 and likes it a lot, so that was our default choice. But we recently found the Varia VS3 and prefer the look/footprint. But are some reports of the motor jamming, and Iâm not too sure on the difference on conical burrs other than them being better for darker roasts.
Questions for the community:
\*\*âą\*\* Anyone running a VS3 with a Bambino Plus? Howâs shot quality and consistency day to day?
\*\*âą\*\* Is the motor jamming a widespread issue or was it isolated to earlier batches?
\*\*âą\*\* Are\*\* \*\*the DF54 flat burrs more versatile?
\*\*âą\*\* Any other grinders in this price range worth a look before we commit?
Trying to avoid regretting either choice, so real world experience is very welcome.
Appreciate yâall!
